Rodger's on transfers: “Obviously, Luis going gives us the clout to go and spend more and we are getting the right type of player in. “We certainly won’t spend just for the sake of spending. It has to be the sort of player who is going to improve us. But we will definitely be stronger this season - no doubt.” “We are working hard behind the scenes to find players, but it will not be a direct replacement [for Suarez]. "We are looking for several players who can add to what we have and improve us again.” “The signings we have made have no relation to Luis going. Absolutely. These are players that were always earmarked to come in. “We felt last year we just never had the depth, and we are in the Champions League this year, so we have to ensure we have a strong as squad as possible. That is what we will do, no question.” “I don’t think we will struggle to attract players,” he said. “Sanchez was one where geography dictated where he wanted to go, simple as that. “It’s been the other way [too]. Lots of players are really impressed by what we are doing as club and really excited about coming here. "It wasn’t a lack of ambition, far from it. The player and his family simply wanted to choose to live where they did." Mirror reporting we're after a big name signing (they name Vidal, Pogba or Reus) as well as the usual list of linked players (Remy, Davies, Lovren etc) Pretty unlikely but nice to be linked with the big names at least.
Liverpool enter race to sign Marco Reus Marco Reus has emerged as a summer transfer target for Liverpool, having been linked with a switch to Manchester United in recent weeks according to reports. The German starlet has emerged as one of the hottest young prospects in Europe, and certainly would have featured in his country's successful World Cup campaign were it not for a serious injury. Emerging talent In his two seasons with Dortmund he's helped them win the Bundesliga and reach the Champions League final in 2013, where they lost out to rivals Bayern Munich. The former Borussia Monchengladbach ace has managed 30 goals in 62 league appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side - form which has certainly attracted the interest of some of Europe's biggest clubs. It's been reported that Reus has a £29.4 million buy-out clause in his contract, which both Manchester United and Liverpool would certainly be able to pay, especially the latter given their recent windfall from the sale of Luis Suarez. Manchester United competition The Reds won't be able to see off competition from Manchester United that easily however; new boss Louis van Gaal is said to have been handed a sizeable transfer warchest to spend this summer in order to help the Red Devils re-establish themselves as a major force once more. That means the two great domestic rivals could go head to head for Reus - although the youngster has previously insisted that he will remain with Dortmund for next season amidst increasing reports he could be on his way to Old Trafford. Busy summer With TalkSPORT carrying reports that Reus could be on his way to Liverpool, Manchester United fans have been venting their fury on Twitter. One wrote: "If Marco Reus goes to Liverpool I would be devastated. Love that guy, would be sad if I had to hate him" while another added: If United don't get Di Maria its fine but we can't let someone like Reus to join rivals Liverpool." Both Manchester United and Liverpool are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window - and indeed have already completed five deals between them. Liverpool spree Liverpool have landed Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Emre Can, with the promise of plenty more to follow. Reports yesterday suggested boss Brendan Rodgers would be given the chance to spend a further £135 million this summer, and is after six more players. Manchester United meanwhile have been heavily linked with moves for Arturo Vidal and Angel di Maria, wile they are also said to be targeting Reus' Dortmund team-mate Mats Hummels. http://www.givemesport.com/485265-liverpool-enter-race-to-sign-marco-reus
look i think its all speculation. reus, hummels, vidal, di maria... all top players. top players ge tlinked to moves
Lol a further 135M! So 190 odd in total? Brendan must feel like Naomi Campbell at a Liberian blood diamond party.......
Reus is never going to happen. Anyone got stats on how Bony and Remy have done off the bench? I feel Bony won't be a great impact sub.
Would love Rues but can't see it happening. he'll stay at Dortmund one more season the be off to Bayern or Spain or City.
I post stories from that source quite often, mainly because I think they're quite amusing. I don't listen to any media source bar the Liverpool website
Interesting BR saying all the signings to date would have been made even if Suarez had left, I thought markovic may have been done on the back of him leaving. I'm still certain we will get at least one big signing in. Ie 30m + and proven
No chance, especially with Rodgers saying there will be no direct replacement. We are just bulking out the squad with average players.
Not much to go on as Remy only came off the bench twice, he got 1 assist in those 2 sub appearances. Bony made 7 sub appearances in the league and got 1 goal and 1 assist from those 7.
Zzzzzzz We have signed one average player so far and he is just the sort of striker a squad needs. reliable, will give his all and won't be sulking at lack of game time The other 3 are very good players, yeah we paid too much for Lallana but you have to do that when you want a player that the other club simply don't want to sell
“We certainly won’t spend just for the sake of spending. It has to be the sort of player who is going to improve us. But we will definitely be stronger this season - no doubt.” “We are working hard behind the scenes to find players, but it will not be a direct replacement [for Suarez]. "We are looking for several players who can add to what we have and improve us again.” He said more than that^^^ although he didn't use the word "average" unless he's been misquoted by the Echo.... And I thought we'd established you can't have a direct replacement for Suarez as there isn't one?
Well there is no direct replacement. What was Suarez? A number 10, a striker, winger, second striker. He's irreplaceable. But that doesn't mean we can't buy quality players to help fill the void. Reus at 30-40 would help.
I seriously don't like signing back-up players! We should be signing players that are good enough to be in the first eleven and let the squad take care of itself, especially after having alreadys igned Lambert #ambition
