There is no doubt about his experience, ability and commitment; for me its about his aging body; can he play 25 - 30 games.

Because a stable CB pairing is crucial.

Can't be bothered to explain again how much I'm against this signing. What will he end up being paid per game?

The same Nelsen who buggered off halfway through the season as his knees were so shot?
Not exactly a shining example of a good old signing.

No Flyer, as always twisting something to suit your own view. Nelsen had essentially retired before he came to us, but Hughes persuaded him to join us as cover. As we all saw, he put his body on the line each week for us. He was allowed to leave by the club because the offer Nelsen was given was too good to turn down. We didn't want him to leave cause he was about the only player playing for us, but we didn't stop him, even though we could have.

Somewhat different from your usual bullshit! If you want to be taken seriously, something I doubt anyone on here's prepared to do anymore as you are just a joke, I suggest you stop twisting everything to your twisted bitter littler views and occasionally try to counter views with some facts.

TBH ive come round on Rio signing. He seems a very serious bloke and i dont think hes doing this purely for the money. I think he will be very committed and will put himself on the line every time he plays. My concerns are that hes very injury probe and this is LR not OT. I hope he doesnt regret this move.

On balance i would have gone elsewhere but hes a ranger now and will put a shift in

While this isn't a signing I would have made, nor one I wanted, it would appear to be a done deal. Let's hope he can be as influential as Frank McLintock was when we signed him from Arsenal all those years ago.

One thing I would like to know is whether he has any extension clauses built into his contract based on appearances like Dunne did.

If Rio is getting more money than we have ever paid someone which he is not? then what does it matter what we pay him? Thats the clubs business?

And statistically speaking we are also bound to finallyvget a good experienced signing (Dunne aside)

Realistically, I think if you had a completely stable two at the back it is not necessarily a good thing. I think it's better to have a group of defenders who all play together on a regular basis and all know each other well.

What I mean by that is if you have a solid pairing at the back and they are the only two who play, then you'll be ****ed if one of them gets injured. Better to have a few centre backs and full backs who all respect each other and fall in line with the way the manager chooses to defend.

Basically, it's about the work ethic and confidence. If you have great work ethic there and confidence in the way they're doing things then it matters less about which of the players is playing specifically.

I'm also in the camp who are hoping to be proved wrong about this signing. Can't question what he would bring behind the scenes and in the dressing room, it's on the pitch where I'm worried.

Nice try but everything I stated was a fact. He said himself his knees weren't up to it.
    Nothing was twisted.

    Silly billy.

I think everyone in their right mind would say Nelsen was a great signing.

He played well but wasn't a great signing.
I'll say the same if Rio plays fantastic and then has to retire or misses half the season.

Fair enough, in your opinion he wasn't great but I will have to disagree with you on this one.

Hopefully Rio can play as well as he did if not better.

No, he played very well. Its just there's no point signing someone if they can't play the games.
His body couldn't handle it and neither has Rios in recent years.

He would have been a great signing if he was fit enough to play.

West Ham sign Ecuador striker Enner Valencia in £12m deal

West Ham have signed Ecuador striker Enner Valencia on a five-year contract from Mexican club Pachuca subject to a work permit being approved.

The deal, reportedly worth £12m, is West Ham's fifth summer signing.
Valencia, 24, scored three goals at the Fifa World Cup - two against Honduras and one against Switzerland - before Ecuador's group-stage elimination.

In a statement, West Ham said they "fought off competition from a host of Europe's leading clubs" for Valencia.

He played over 100 times for Ecuadorian club side Emelec before joining Pachuca in January.
Valencia, who was a right winger until he joined the Mexican side, scored 18 goals in 23 league games last season.

He joins West Ham following the signings of midfielder Diego Poyet from Charlton, striker Mauro Zarate from Velez Sarsfield, Anderlecht's Senegal international midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate and Ipswich full-back Aaron Cresswell.

    awjm,

Agree with all you say, but you play your 2 best CB week in week out, if there is an injury, the work ethic, teamwork, confidence and team system, allow your number 3 CB to slot in. Not rotating 3/4 CBs on a regular basis.

I guess it depends who our top 2 CB will be ? Ned and Rio ? with Dunne or Hill slotting in when needed ?

But we seem to be shopping around for another CB ? It would be a huge surprise if last seasons number 1,2, & 3 CB's were all relegated to 3,4, & 5.

Surely Ned deserves to be in the starting 11 !
