Disloyal twat? It is easy to throw that out there as if it proves my viewpoint is harsh and hypocritical. Cork is a professional footballer and I am sure he has spoken to Koeman about this. He still has a year left, so he isn't going to get any pre-contract offers. If the club accepts an offer for him, that tells us their view on his role.

I like Cork and want to keep him, but do we need a third DM in a 4-3-3? Especially with such excellent youth prospects behind him?

As is the idea that you should give a player any contract he wants after he's been a good squad player for a season. ESPECIALLY if there's a new coach who may have designs on bringing in another player.

    4 possibilities I can see:

    1. RK really hasn't decided
    2. They have a verbal agreement and will sort it later (Pellè's move was put on hold to sort Tadic's - new signings take a lot of resources)
    3. He will be replaced with a new signing and let go once they've signed
    4. They will let his contract run down as he will be surplus to requirements as youngsters come through - I agree with previous posts that they we should give him new contract so we can sell him next year if this is true

I agree. A few of our fans are quick to moan about loyalty, but forget its a two way street.

How is the club being disloyal? Talk is we have offered a contract. He has been informed that the new manager will be evaluating the squad and that he must wait. Loyalty does not equate to giving someone anything they want. The club is a business and has to consider other possibilities.

I'm not hyping Cork Beef. The point I'm making is that the transfer business is a big unknown. We've signed as many (if not more) duds than we have quality additions, and that's not something that's exclusive to us, it's true of all transfer dealings at all clubs. Cork is not an unknown and as he is already under contract even a greatly improved offer is still a cheaper way of ensuring depth in your squad than paying any form of transfer fee.

    Oh yeah!

To be fair, it wasn't just me. I know I am somewhat blinkered when it comes to Cork but if you take last season as a whole, Cork was far and away our most consistent performer in that dmf position.

DTLW, you obviously think otherwise but you cannot possibly suggest that Wanyama was the better player last season. He maybe better next season, who knows, but he played Ok in a few games, was excellent in a couple, but was also dire at times.

As for JWP, I like him but I think his skills are limited. Whether or not he can make the most of them (like Beckham) remains to be seen.

Monk said that we were going to offer a contract, IIRC, not that we have already.

I think that would be a waste of his attacking flair. I was impressed with that last season

He was a problem player when we signed him if you recall; he had a falling out at OL before we signed him. I suppose we should not be that surprised with his attitude. Maybe someone, in hindsight, was always going to be a 'problem'...

there are plenty of twats in the world, unfortunately he is a really good player that would weaken the team if he left. But I would take that hit to maintain harmony within the team, if Pool are still willing to pay top dollar for him. I could not read the twitter comment but I find it strange he was not involved today

I disagree. I think the vast majority of Saints fans absolutely value Cork. For me, it's just a small - but fairly vocal - minority who appear to undervalue him.

I will be so disappointed if we let Cork. Nothing to do with loyalty (loyalty has never, ever bothered me, in whichever direction), simply because he's a darn good player who pushes his abilities to the limits.
