You'll get on well with John Firth then (he lives in Baton Rouge and his son went to LSU)! I went to visit him and met Mike the Tiger. I drove down the I-55 from Memphis to Baton Rouge and have to say that my impression of Mississippi was quite a lot of "nothing but trees". The only time I saw anything resembling a built-up area was driving around Jackson. Maybe I should have visited Biloxi or Gulfport. Welcome to the mad house!!!
Oh my bad, soz. People refer to SPL, even though it should be SPFL, and I have seen people think BPL means British and not Barclays, so, **** ya. Just Premier League should do it really. In England. The English Premier League. Sorted.
Welcome MSU City Draft. A few decent North American lads on here. US & Canada based City fans, who contribute a great deal to some good discussion & banter. So more the merrier. Hope you stick with us. It's a roller-coaster ride supporting us. We don't normally hit the heady heights, but when we occasionally get a bit of success we make sure we enjoy it.
This I like and so will many other City fans! How people can have a club in their heart when their only affiliation is that they chose to wear their shirt because they won the most cups in a particular season is totally beyond, they have something missing. Hopefully you and your friend will still still support City next season and for many seasons to come, and not just because they play the prettiest football or win the most games/cups, but because, over the course of the season, a little bit of black & amber has seeped into your soul! Welcome boys, I hope you enjoy your first season and are here for many seasons to come.
Do you know if there are any inter-collegiate forums (ideally sports themed ) that could be tapped into to try to generate more support/awareness for Hull City ? It would seem like now would be a good time given the recent exposure in the US with the World Cup & mass TV coverage. Perhaps MSU City Draft would have some thoughts on that & push City's name out there ? Spreading the word at the grass-roots level ! Good marketing post btw You may have already explained before somewhere, but as a matter of interest ellewoods, how did you latch onto supporting Hull City ?
I was about to mention that, it's remarkable to think they are now 4 divisions below us. Sheffield United are two divisions below us. I'm also happy enough with old rivals looking up at us and maybe new rivalries created. Also, in response to earlier remarks, I think we'd all love to be an all-out attacking side but we don't have the billionaire owner some clubs have, so if we were just reckless against some teams we would be slaughtered. The main thing is that this is a passing team, no crude hoofing the ball upfield. The team is called Hull City or City, only those outside the area call us Hull. And to repeat what someone else said we play in black and amber, it makes me wince when I even hear English commentators say we are playing in yellow or orange. The club has had some good teams in the past. Boothferry Park was considered a good ground and had the biggest floodlights in the country in the 70s. The attendance record was up to 50,000 in the 50s. The 60s team had great strikers but didn't make the top tier. Two promotions in the 80s but not the final one to the top tier. Then Boothferry Park became run down and the team became worse in the 90s. Only in the last decade with the move to a new stadium have fortunes turned around. The city of Hull (official name Kingston upon Hull, named after the River Hull that runs through it) is generally ignored by most of the country because although it's a large city it isn't part of a large urban conurbation and isn't down the central spine of the country. It's thought of as an end of the line place as you don't really pass through to go anywhere else. So there's plenty of misplaced ignorance by people who've never been there and know nothing as the media largely ignores it. I doubt crime is worse than any other major cities, and there are some nice areas, with more spaciousness than some ugly conurbations and some tree lined roads. I don't think it has been as ethnically diverse as some other places in the country, maybe people didn't move to a place seen as not so central. Recent migrants from the EU will have created some problems but I doubt that's any different to many other areas in Europe that received a sudden influx. Main things the city is famous for: -The Humber Bridge which crosses the huge Humber Estuary, when constructed it was the largest single span suspension bridge in the world. Created a large debt which still hasn't been written off I think and was criticised as a 'road to nowhere'. -Hull Fair which must be over a hundred years old and is supposed to be the largest fun fair in Europe I think. -The Deep, which was created as part of the Millennium project and is a huge aquarium. -William Wilberforce in the early 19th century led the movement for the abolition of the slave trade. -It was known as a fishing port for a long time (though no longer). -Because there are two rugby clubs (and they had success in the 80s) and only one major football club some still see it as more a rugby place even though their attendances aren't that good. -Spurn Point is a big natural landmark, and there's several small seaside resorts that are easily within reach for locals. -Briefly it was put into a made up county called Humberside, some of those ignorant still think it is in that but it isn't. It's back in East Yorkshire which was re-established.
Have Sc**thorpe United had a mention as rivals? Or Lincoln City? North ferriby are a massive rival and all. And that's before we even get to our biggest, fiercest rival - Middlesbrough, the dirty smoggy ****s. I can't believe they won't have been mentioned yet.
Something we're not famous for, but certainly should be, is that we are the birthplace of the man termed the father of football, Ebeneezer Cobb Morley. Ebenezer Cobb Morley (1831â1924) was an English sportsman and is regarded as the father of The Football Association and modern Football. Morley was born at 10 Garden Square, Princess Street in Hull. In 1863 he wrote to Bell's Life newspaper proposing a governing body for the sport, that led to the first meeting at the Freemasons' Tavern, that created the FA. He was the FA's first secretary (1863â1866) and its second president (1867â1874) and drafted the first Laws of the Game at his home in Barnes. As a player, he played in the first ever match, against Richmond in 1863, and scored in the first representative match, between the clubs of London and Sheffield on 31 March 1866. Naa naaa na na, He's from 'ull Ebeneezer's from 'ull. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebenezer_Cobb_Morley
One of our chants really does sum us up. Its has been mentioned on here already but."silverware we don't care, follow Hull City everywhere" is perfect. Most of us on here are happy that we are in the PL but still supported the club when it looked likely that we would have a job to survive. The film "See you at Wembley Frankie Walsh" can be found on you tube. Made by Mark Herman it represents for many life in Hull as a supporter, a complete work of fiction that never looked remotely like ever happening. I can identify with most of the characters. Now we have been to Wembley 3 times! Which when stacked against the records of other clubs is nothing, but for us it was like landing on the moon!

SECRant is likely the largest college American football forum, and the vast majority of its fans are SEC fans like me. They have a subforum specifically dedicated to football. Here is a link: http://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant/b/105/Soccer-Board.aspx Warning: They WILL troll new people, but if a few of you jumped over there, I am sure you could generate some interest. Edit: Whoops. Used american terms, haha.
As there's Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs season long threads on that forum I'd suggest that you start a Hull City one, that will undoubtedly draw us across there to support you against any WUM's
