I feel like him posting that photo woth Fonte is a good thing, means that hopefully he isn't damaging the atmosphere with the squad.

However his twitter is very different to when he signed last year and throughout the whole year, where it seemed like he was a saints fan through and through sometimes.

Don't expect him to stay but would really like him to as I think his quality and the stability it would bring would be better than getting rid of him.

Could you go out and buy a Jack Cork replacement for less than £10m? And by that I don't mean promise or potential. I mean absolute, guaranteed knowledge of what you get for your money and how he gels with the team and squad. No. No you couldn't.

How much does it cost us to offer a contract to an existing player? Nothing. It is utterly, utterly ludicrous to leave the guy in limbo like this, especially when you need four quality players in his position to allow for injury.

I think you probably could get a similar player for less than £10m, yes.

That said, I like Cork and he should get a new deal. But he's not better than Schneiderlin or Wanyama, JWP has more potential and S. Davis is solid too.

It's not inconceivable that in a year's time we will have little or no game time for Cork, if we progress.

As I said though, he should get a new deal so we can at very least command a fee at some stage.

Maybe koeman wants Jordy clasie and doesn't see a future for jack. Would be a shame as I thought he played very well last year.

But it's money we don't need to spend DTLW and as you say, we'll still want a fee for the guy if we do decide he is surplus to requirements. It's hard to get that if he's not under contract!

I don't think we'll be playing two dms this year. That will surely be part of it?

And when we keep banging on about players who want to be here...in Cork we have a player who wants to be here. Or at least did, before we left him in limbo.

Some of you are over hyping Cork just a little too much. He is a good play and gives his all yes, but come on the way some of you are going on about him makes him out to be some world class player.

He's a long way from world class, but I do think he's undervalued. More importantly, with three, maybe four/five or six players going this pre-season, we need to have some continuity, so Cork and Fonte are pretty valuable to us today.

Cork and Fonte both have a year left tho. Monk is hardly wrong with his info so we can say Cork will be handed a contract. That just leaves Fonte with a year left, we could either give him a new contract or let his contrat run out giving us this season before we get another cb. That way you aren't changing too much to quickly.

Yep that's give him a new contract before the new manager takes a look at him.

Yes, let's. Let's reward a player who by all accounts kept his head down and working when he barely saw the pitch for the first few months of last season owing to the Schneiderlin/Wanyama pairing. Let's reward a guy who is almost certainly still good enough for the Premier League and remains one of the few quality first-team players who don't have one foot out the door. And we could do that before Koeman was just a hopeful target, we could have done that while we were negotiating with him, could have done that when we first brought him in, and assuredly could do it right bloody now. The idea that we're holding it up by saying "sorry, Jack, you've been a high-quality player for us, but we want to give the new manager time to see whether he thinks you're useless and should be turfed" is ludicrous.

Isn't that a simplistic view of contracts? Contract negotiations aren't just two years or nothing. What terms will he be contracted on? Does he deserve more money? Is his role in the team part of factoring that? I can't see the harm in allowing a manager some time to assess what kind of contract he wanted to offer.

I am pretty sure MP was not going to offer anything to either of them, and that is the last thing anyone said to this board about them. So let the new guy reassess and offer what he thinks is right.

Nah you can't do that it's all the boards fault for everything! Some Saints fans just like to moan about everything I guess.

It shouldn't be particularly difficult to figure out what role Cork is likely to be playing (the odds of him being anything less than our third DM are remarkably slim), and what that means in terms of a fair contract.

But sure, let's see just how patient Cork can be in waiting for us to decide whether he has a role on the team while other clubs circle. It'll be fun to find out whether he too is a disloyal twat in a few weeks.

The third player in a two man position like midfield (where injuries, form and tiredness are probably at their highest) will always play a fair bit I'd suggest.

What if Koeman see's Cork as holding back Prowse and Reed? There is no such thing as loyalty in football with club or player. Clubs get rid of players who still have contracts and players leave while still on long contracts. If Cork was to leave it would be simply moving on as he is either not wanted or he wants more first team football. The reason why Lallana and Lovren get flak is how they handled it and not the fact they wanted to leave.
