Wouldn't surprise me if they sold him - as you say, it looks like Rekik will step up this season - City have given him a squad number, rather than loaning him out.

If he had wanted to go to QPR, he would have gone by now. Obviously dont fancy the season "carrying" Rio. He is holding out for someone better to come in,whether that be us, Liverpool,Everton or whoever.
Fingers crossed he comes to us, as i also agree he will be an England regular by the next World Cup or possibly for the next Euro's, and his value will soar.
Buy him for £8M, then sell him to the "bin dippers" for £25M in a couple of years time.

Paulinho and caulker aren't good enough for me. Caulker seems better than he is because he scores every now and then, he's an average defender.

Yes. That's the reason I'm having a worry twinge. I'm good with Tadic, but if our other signings are Paulinho, Caulker and Pelle.......well......that concerns me on any number of levels.

I think it's hard to tell with Caulker, still young, shown glimpses of what he can do, I'd definitely take him. It's hard to tell with any signing really, like Lovren last year, not many people had heard of him, and when he wasn't even playing for Lyon etc people jumped to the conclusion that he wasn't that great. Then look what happened.

Havn't seen enough of Paulinho to judge tbh. Caulker has been excellent defensively for Swansea, Spurs and Cardiff over the past few seasons and has good experience for someone who is still only 22. Hes a comanding centre back with pace and is decent on the ball. A good fit in my opinion (I think we are a good fit for him as well).

We can all dream of De Vrij, Javier Hernandez and Banega but the fact is if players don't want tO come it's up to the club to look for players who, collectively, can take us to the next level. We had that last season and I have faith we will get there again.

We are trying to get De Vrij so he is less of a dream then the other two. We tried and failed to get Banega last season.

With Caulker, we're judging a centreback who has played in a bad team. Defence starts at the front and defending is easier at Southampton, with the cover we offer, than it was at Cardiff. I think he could be alright. We need lots of players. Lots and lots and lots. Lashings, even.

I asked a Cardiff fan about Caulker a week or two ago.

    His summary...

    - Strong
    - Good header
    - Rash tackler
    - Very poor positioning, gets sucked into the game and out of position

    Yes, that's why it's just a twinge......

Really it's that we're not exactly making inspiring or exciting signings. Though on the flipside, Osvaldo was an exciting signing and it didn't work. I'd just like an excitement twinge rather than a worry twinge.

I think Koeman would be a good manager to bring on a young defender like Caulker who shows a lot of promise. He'd certainly be an improvement on Hooiveld and Yoshida. De Vrij would be nice, Caulker would be okay.

Either that is a harsh summary, or it is weird that he was made captain. Poor positioning in a young centre back is at least partly down to his partner. He needs shouting at. My only issue with this is that Fonte benefitted greatly from having Lovren shouting at him... can we get someone else shouting at both of them?

I'm trying to think of what other CB's we could realistically replace Lovren with. You would think that Koeman can spot a good CB when he see's one.
