Charlton beat a Gibraltar XI 5-1.

We conceded first after a mix-up between Pope and Ben Haim but were on top for the rest of the match.

Tucudean scored within 7 minutes of coming on. Church also scored after coming on as sub. Other goals from Vetokele (2) and Harriott.

Solly not used again. I hope there is no significance in that. So Wilson at RB and Nego at RM. Bob seems to realise Nego is not suited to RB.

No suggestion so far that Bob has a starting XI in mind, but I can understand that with all the recent arrivals. Maybe we will get more clue on Saturday.

    Any news from Thurrock?

Is it my imagination or are we trialling more young cast-offs from bigger clubs these days?

Maybe there are just more on the market as the new regulations mean clubs cannot hoard so many players?

In any case I think it makes sense. These youngsters will all have shone as boys and will possess above average ball skills. The fact they have no prospect of breaking into squads like Arsenal and Chelsea in no way means they will not be good enough for the Championship once they are getting more match practice in a settled team.

And, having been knocked back a rung or two, they may be more willing to buckle down and salvage a career for themselves. Those who still delude themselves they have a god-given right to a huge paypacket like Frimpong can be weeded out.

Bringing our own through is better, but most won't make it and will need to be replaced at u21 level. This summer we have discarded Jordan (our long-standing captain) and Azeez (once our hottest prospect) and I doubt if Osborne and Muldoon will be around much longer though I do hope they will blossom. This is Piggott, Fox, and Harriott's last season as u21s so their last chance too.
