http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/winner Chelsea Untied and City all equal chance of title imo, Arsenal strengthened well and used to midweek footie, so unsurprisingly Suarez-less dippers favourites to miss out. Sours 1961/2, 2010/11, 2050/51?
Going to be a tight season. May even see a low points total to win it as 5-6 very good sides capable of taking points of each other plus the normal lower teams over performing against the big sides on occasion. Sticking my neck out I'd go City or us for the title, Arsenal 3rd and United 4th, just. Liverpool without Suarez and a lot of new players plus tough 2nd season and in Europe so I'm saying 5th. Spurs 6th. Beyond that don't really care.
What about Everton though, they impressed last season and only missed out on a CL spot because of a spazzy last couple of weeks.
forget about lowest points. the league is only fake-competitive in that the best teams have got worse rather than the worse team got better. exhibit A would be the poor return in Europe over the past few seasons, compared to when the premier league used to get 2 to 3 teams into the cl semis on a regular basis. This year, I would hope to see us have a good consistent season and reach 90 points rather than flaff around in the low 80s / high 70s which will NOT win us the league I guarantee you.
Would have thought it prudent to at least wait and see what the Team line ups will be. If Costa breaks a fingernail, our odds would be changed pretty sharpish. Those teams in the CL will need astute managing to win the PL . Its no easy thing to win both. Just hope we don't try to win everything, and have the Team running on empty when the sharp end of the season arrives. The teams that prioritise their season will be the ones to beat. Hope we're one of them, we should be and could be with our new line up. Got a feeling Jose will go all out for the PL this year, with the CL as our 2nd priority.
To win CL - any team would need loads of luck - just like Real had lucky escapes in their last 3 knock out matches.. PL will be my choice and should be ours as well.
Bookies gave Liverpool no chance last year too! Odds are calculated so that bookmakers make money regardless of the outcome. The odds reflect how much money people have placed on bets. The shorter the odds the more money placed on that bet. I think anyone would say Chelsea and City are favourites. Personally I think pool can get third... but we'll see. Futile to guess before all the team's have even finished transfers.
United aren't near title favourites imo. You can't look at Liverpool last season and assume United will do the same in the same way you cant look at Spurs losing Bale and Liverpool losing Suarez as the same thing. For me it is between Chelsea and City, with Arsenal close behind. I do think United will bounce back but there is Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham there as well. Hopefully another season to remember!
I really do think, depending on signings, that Everton have a great chance of getting in to the top 4 this season. If we are to assume the top 3 spots will be Chelsea, City and Arsenal (and I am), then in my mind that leaves Liverpool, United, Spurs and Everton vying for the 4th spot. Spurs blew their wad on a lot of duds and it remains to be seen whether their new manager can get their team to work this season United have a new manager and a lot of rebuilding to do, but they have made a couple of decent signings and have a manager with a clue this time around, they are my favourites for 4th. Liverpool have signed some okay players, but like Spurs last season, the loss of such a talismanic player cannot be understated plus Gerrard's abilities are slowly bu surely waning with each season, he seems a shadow of the player he was 6-7 years ago and is re-jigging their team to accomodate him in to a more defensive role ultimately going to help or hinder them? plus I think if they have a mediocre start we will see some heads drop. Everton surprised me last season, it is known how little they have to spend on players, but Martinez strikes me as a shrewd man and a very good manager. If he can replace Deulofeu and Lukaku with players of an equivalent standard, on the cheap, then, if United stumble and dont get 4th as I predict, I think they can easily be the team to swoop in and grab it.
