What an absolute mess that genius Karl Oyston (what a nice bloke) is making of Blackpool ... pre season tour to Spain cancelled because they have just EIGHT players on their books, and no goalkeeper ... this has to be the end of the road for Blackpool now, I can't see them surviving and they will be relegated, and with their financial difficulties it's hard to see how they're going to add any quality to their team ... I can see administration looming, and many hard years ahead for this once mighty Premier League club (if you believe Oyston, of course) ... they rolled the dice, had over thirty full time pros on good wages at one point, and now they will pay a heavy price The one thing I say over and over again is this ... the smaller clubs who get promotion to the Prem face real danger when they get relegated ... if they spend just two years back in the Championship it all implodes ... the key reason for this is that they don't have huge support to help fund them, they don't attract the right sponsorship monies, and good players don't want to sign for them anymore ... teams like Wigan and Bolton need promotion as a definite this season or they are the next lot to be in trouble, and it won't be easy for them ... QPR only just managed to escape total meltdown, but they are still on the edge and if they get relegated again I don't think they can afford another gamble and keep their highly paid players We for one know only too well what ambition and greed can do to a club, and recent FA Cup Winners Portsmouth have felt the pain as well ... in our case it was a blind fool who made stupid deals that cost us, and then falling into the devil's hands as we were bled dry slowly by a Chelsea Scummer ... the clubs with small fan bases (and yes, 20k supporters IS small) who get to the Prem or gamble on getting there are running a huge risk, and when it fails the fall is spectacular ... the entire set up in English football is just wrong right now, and the Prem is going to cause more and more disasters within the game rather than making it better ... I see many more hard luck stories coming along, many more ... and the stupid thing is after Germany won the WC everyone is asking "what can we learn from the Germans?" ... well, the key thing is their clubs are not allowed to carry debt, and they have more Germans playing in their leagues than foreigners ... nuff said
Well said.... although the size of the fanbase is crucial, although I would have to say that it is not the supporters going through the turnstiles that matters anymore, but the global fanbase. Just have to look at Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool who now have a global fanbase with which to sell shirts to. Newcastle, Spurs, Everton get big crowds, but they do not have global appeal, therefore they have problems obtaining sponsorship from the large corporations, which denies them the funds to compete. So we are all in the same boat....living in hope that we can one day get to the top table and compete with the also rans
Nice one Billy. Are you serious about them having only 8 players with less than 3 weeks to the start of the season? Feel sorry for them. But this has got disaster, administration and relegation to L2 eventually written all over it.
Yes only 8 with 27 having left! SPN report yesterday and you're right, they're another Pompey waiting to happen.
Two players walked out yesterday. For shaks benefit: 8 players - 2 players = 6 six players still at the club. ;-)
Bet that's an interesting training session. Full on match sitution of 3 againt 3. Sounds like fun, especially if the play on a full pitch!!!
Billy, Thanks for that resume of the financial implode of some famous clubs. It has slowly been creeping into the whole structure of the English leagues. With the big clubs chasing ever of the financial cake the little clubs are going to the wall. Unless clubs have the backing of very rich characters they are really chasing an impossible dream. I hope Leeds can avoid the same fate, after a long period of failure from the last set of owners. Its now in the hands of MC and we can just hope that he can move the club in the right direction
AAAHHHH. No grog consumed. That explains the not jumping into traps then.... When is MOT going shopping?
So sorry to upset the apple cart Billy but what you have stated in not quite correct so I will enlighten you. I have had contact with Karen Oyston in the past ,she was the long suffering wife of O.I.OYSTON Stewart Halls mate so say no more, done for rape a few years back . Well he still owns the club and has taken in bonus's recently £13m out as a one off payment Karl is his son . #So Blackpool are no wanting to waste money in the close season on wages but you can rest assured they will have a full squad come kickoff they are just very prudent
Glory, I'm sober since mon and getting my walks in,trying to get to the weekend before I start my 4 day bender(booze) ..
no problem 60, the thing is who will sign for them knowing the mess they're in ... I'm only stating the fact that they have eight players, and now the latest is the manager is at odds with the chairman over player targets and its holding up them moving forward ... Ince money won't be all up front, and I've checked figures with the figure being around £2.5m not the £4m Blackpool wanted to sell him for in January ... bottom line is they never recovered from relegation and they had a bloated wage bill, now they are struggling to put a team together and it looks very bleak for them Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Billy they have been very frugal since relegation hence Oyston took out a £13m bonus! I know Geoffrey Richmond did a similar thing at Bradford when they got relegated and then declared himself bankrupt! Where did the money go!
