Over the years the #9 shirt has always been special at Newcastle and been worn with pride by some of the best strikers the game has seen. Most of you won't be old enough to have seen a lot of them playing but will no doubt have heard/read about them.

Omitting the obvious Milburn and Shearer, who would you say was the best of the rest?

    Len White.
    Wyn Davies.
    Malcolm McDonald.
    Andy Cole.
    Les Ferdinand.

    SuperMac, easily.

As much as I loved Sir Les he wasn't a patch on McDonald

Unfortunately I wasn't alive to see Super Mac play but I've seen plenty of footage about him and he looks like everything you look for in a proper center forward.

A claim to fame, I actually met and spoke to Wyn Davies and Supermac. Got a tale I could tell about Supermac but I won't.

I can only claim to have seen Cole and Ferdinand. I guess historically it'd be right to say Len White or Supermac but I grew up with Cole as number 9 and 55 goals in 70 appearances is pretty great so for me I'd go with him.

SuperMac presented my nephew with the player of the year award when he played for Shields. He's the honorary chairman, or something. It's safe to say he was pissed as a fart

I'll try and think of an easy, polite way of putting it and post it later.
