Is QPR goalkeeper Júlio Cesar on his way to Benfica? By Chris Westwood 2014-07-15 17:24:00 A return to QPR looks unlikely for the former Inter Milan star - Action Images According to the Daily Mail, the Portuguese side want the 34-year-old Brazilian as a replacement for current first choice Jan Oblak, who they are losing to Atletico Madrid. After being frozen out by QPR, Júlio Cesar was loaned out to Toronto FC in the MLS where he made seven appearances before the World Cup. He will now be hoping that a move to Benfica revitalises his career. When Júlio Cesar was beaten from the penalty spot in the third minute of third-place playoff match against Holland on Saturday, he became the holder of an unwanted record. It was the 16th conceded by the former Inter Milan star in World Cup matches, handing him the record of conceding the most goals at World Cup finals for Brazil. It was his 12th World Cup game over two tournaments in 2010 and 2014. The previous record-holder was Taffarel, who conceded 15 goals in 18 games across three World Cups. Taffarel played in 1990, 1994 and 1998, taking home a winner's medal in 1994.
I hope he is on his way out of the club. I don't rate him as a keeper at all and he epitomises all that is wrong with modern day footballers, ie. he's greedy.
The Guys had 7 chances to move but ****ed it up each time. This may come as quite a surprise but I think he may be very thick in actual fact.
If you keep that up, it may bring a tear to my eye, just like Cesar explaining to his son why he had to train alone ............ money son, it makes it all worthwhile.
The stat about conceding the most goals is a bit unfair - the fault for all the goals against Germany lay squarely with the defence. You could tell when Schurrle scored the seventh that he was thinking he'd basically faced the Germans alone. I actually felt quite sorry for him during that game, he must have felt like a duck in a shooting gallery...
Add to that Dante was entirely missing, Fernandinho and Luis Gustavo in midfield were nowhere to be seen, and Fred, Bernard, Oscar and Hulk were only interested in attacking. In effect, all ten outfield players were useless. You don't get that even in pub sides on the rec of a sunday morning, let alone from Brazil in a World Cup semifinal on home soil. The few saves Cesar was able to make (especially his tip over from Muller in the second half) were great, but there's no way that he could have anticipated being so utterly let down by his team.
Did I hear that he picked up a new injury at WC......back ache from picking ball out of the net 10 times in last 2 games....... I'll get my coat.....
I am loathe to start a new thread on this, so I'll sneak it in here. According to the Times, AC Milan are still interested in Adel, although their fixed price option has lapsed.
Not a world class keeper anymore based on his displays at the world cup. The sooner we sever ties to that period the better.
Disagree there, Kerry. He was one of the very few Brazil players to come out of the tournament pretty neutral, I thought. Four goals up to the Semi-final implosion, which was due to pretty much every outfield player going AWOL or forgetting how to defend. In the 3rd place match they couldn't really be arsed to try. Given that, he's not really affected his standing, although I wouldn't be surprised if he was one of a large number of casualties form the WC squad.
He's a bad smell and should go. He has a money first, football second approach to the game even if it means it screws his playing career.
I totally agree, despite that ludicrous multi year contract he was awarded, he really needs to move on - I also detest all those "poor little rich boy" slanted articles. Despite his occasional clangers I would take Rob Green over Cesar any day (he's not "the right sort"), but we also need to sign up a good young #2 keeper, such as Jack Butland (only 21), who would learn from Green and keep him on his toes if form should dip, plus covering off potential injuries. He's still a Stoke player, but after loan spells at Birmingham, Barnsley and Leeds he would likely jump at an opportunity to join us, and after the whole Cesar fiasco, it would be the least Mark Hughes could do to compensate us! please log in to view this image http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Butland From the park to penalty hero There were pivotal twists and dramatic turns, moments of boundless ecstasy and crushing agony, tears of frenzied joy and unthinkable despair - but in the end, it came down to a man who could not get a game in the second tier of English football last season.
