Think you're overestimating Gerrard's contribution in the coming season, Rodgers said the other week he'll be used sparingly, so readjust your team predictions/selections with that in mind and come up with alternatives.
I'm not, just can't see who is going to displace him. Certainly not immediately anyway, Can might do given time but I know nothing about him.
You can't really put one line-up up though as different opposition will warrant different players. Against teams that are quick passers I'd be dropping Gerrard and playing Hendo deeper (or Can if he proves to be useful) and then Lallana and Allen/Coutinho to help press and be energetic in the middle. comparing Lallana/Coutinho is tricky. No doubting Lallana had the better season last year but Couts has the far bigger potential. Just needs to become more consistent but he's only 21 I think so plenty of time.
Well, we have no choice but to go with BR obv He's not bad to have had over 70 appearances though! Given his age as well He'll be back up to Enrique though hopefully (hopefully he's the same player after his injury)
Coutinho is more offensive and Lallana is a harder worker. If they are in direct competition for a place then it will come down to who we are playing.
Rodgers said he will be rested more. Not used sparingly. Gerrard has not been rested once in the league under Rodgers, so if Rodgers rests Gerrard for just one league game he has rested him more often. Gerrard will play most games and be a key player.
Yeah I see but he has to be replaced, and this season is the season and Rodgers has his replacement in Hendo( got to learn and adjust) but if Lucas goes that might even be Hendos slot, so there's loads of combos if you throw in another attacker and or a mid of Lazar, Lallana(central),Couts. But I'm more arsed about our defence as nothing seems to be happening either outward or inward.
Rumours Moreno is back on again now.. god knows whats going on with that though. Still concerned we aren't even being linked with any right backs at the moment. Johnson is poor, Flanno is first choice which is a worry and Kelly/Wisdom I'm not convinced with them at RB. IF Enrique stays fit, I don't think we need to spend £17m on a LB but maybe Rodgers really doesn't rate Enrique, or trust his injury record. I don't think we're seeing much movement in defence because number wise we are ok. Maybe we're waiting to get rid before replacing otherwise we are jam packed with 6 CB's (Agger, Skrt, Sakho, Toure, Ilori, Coates) and 4 RB's.
Can't honestly see it JK, he's a legend but all legends careers peter out, we've got the CL this season as well as domestic and you're kidding yourself if you never saw how ****ed Stevie was in many games last season. Just mho mate.
Enrique isn't exactly a world beater though. I'm just frustrated. We're seemingly happy enough to spend £50m on attacking players when we really need to bring in quality at the back. I don't think I can stand watching Glenn Johnson as starting right back for another season. Finishing second with Johnson in the side is testament to how good we were going forward.
We're taking the next step and not bothering with one next season I fear for Mingolet the season after
When Stevie started he was a ball of energy but he gradually learned his best attributes, Ray Kennedy was bought as an attacker and became the most cultured midfielder of his day.
See I rate Enrique really highly but tend to be in the minority and still not sure if Rodger's trusts him. I think Johnson will be lucky to be 1st choice given Flanno's performances at LB last year.
This. And this. He's a box to box midfielder. He's great supporting an anchorman but would be wasted and would struggle positionally. Can is a better deeper option, but is also better in that supporting/box to box role.
When Gerrard first started, his best attribute was being a ball of energy! He also had bags of natural talent whereas Hendo as had to work hard on developing those talents to get where he is today.
