    Indeed.

Even more so when you look at the line up. Nice for De Jong to get off the mark but the first 2-3 friendly games are all about building fitness. After that you want to see a game plan taking shape but even then it's not always important.

Surprised this made the news over on your board though.

I did see you shoot it down to be fair <ok>

When's your first friendly? Don't post loads on your board, more of an observer but noticed a few starting to raise concerns about a lack if transfer activity, which is understandable to be fair.

It's a week today, away at Carlilse, I think.

Regarding the transfer activity, it is cause for concern but again it's only started the last few days since you have brought a few players in. Of course I would like to see players brought in early to integrate into the squad, but if there's one thing I've learned from last season it's not to panic to early. We could easily bring in 2-3 players in the next couple of weeks and the masses will be calm again.

    Footballs a fickle old game.

Have to say it does seem early for us to have a friendly. Players only returned to training last week.

You're right regarding the signings though mate, go back 4/5 days to before Cabella arrived and the majority of us on here were starting to become frustrated. As you said, only takes a signing or two or turn the tide and get a bit of optimism.

On our board monitoring opinions regarding your friendly..So you must be one of the one star tinkers I presume..
PS..If we had lost to Oldham with an Ex Skunk making his début, do you seriously think that there wouldn't have been comments on here about it?

I honestly think there wouldn't have been more than a brief mention in the ebar.
    Certainly wouldn't be a dedicated thread. :)

Funny you should say that, because the Oldham thread is the very first time I've ever rated a thread on your board...

And yes I gave it one star.

I mean, I understand why there's a thread about it, you're yet to spend a penny in the window, Colback has gone, Wickham could be next and they're both players that played a big part in keeping you up. You've got about two senior defenders left on your books and by senior I mean a combined age of nearly 70 (Brown and O'Shea). I even spotted a thread all but comparing Ellis Short to our very own Mike Ashley (surprised it's taken the penny so long to drop on that one, given his obvious lack of interest in progressing your club over the last two years).

I get it though, your local rivals (with a team packed out with kids and reserve players) losing to a lower league team in a friendly is about as good as it gets for you guys at the moment.

Don't be too harsh on them mate. Billy Jones is a sign of things to come I'm sure....... world class........ truly world class......... <yikes>

Here's a left field thought though.... maybe some of their threads get 1 starred because they aren't that good?... just a thought.....

So you are trying to say that if a Skunk you had had on your books since childhood had made his début for us against Oldham and lost you would not have had a thread about it? Especially if he had been spouting off about being a Sunderland fan all his life...Somehow I think you are wrong..

Good to see everyone is up for the new season. banter started already. Pre season friendlies mean nothing. Its all about getting players fit and trying out new systems IE How to defend. The team that played last night will be a million miles away from the team that plays Man city.

We still lost and the fact remains we were winning and Pardew made a few changes and low and behold they looked like Germany. The season will be a failure as long as Pardew is around.
