So, if you were to respond to him, what would you write? We have no influence, we only have hope. But I must say, I'm not pleased with the club dragging this out, its asking for trouble.

It's a fair point. Especially with Rodriguez rehabbing from a serious injury.

It's a very fair point on his part. But the fact that he decided to go for some passive-aggressive sniping on Twitter probably indicates that his son is equally frustrated, and there's really zero good reason why we couldn't have signed Cork before the season ended, never mind dragging it out this long and allowing that frustration to build.

I guess I'd tell him not to worry about anything because at the end of the day it's just football, and eventually we will all die and be reunited with all of our loved ones in a land of eternal bliss and things like this won't matter at all. But I wouldn't do it on Twitter, I'd go tell him in person and cradle his head in my arms while stroking his hair.

It did appear that MP wasn't a huge Jack fan, so maybe while they were still "hoping" MP may stay, they decided to wait. Then they appointed a new manager and decided to wait and let him assess a player who didn't seem to be a big part of the previous manager's plans. I don't see any doubts like this with Jayrod.

There is also the possibility that MP or the transfer committee were looking to replace Jack with an upgrade. We just don't know what is going on behind the scenes. Time will tell.

Although it may come across as a little swipe at the club and possibly not doing his son any favours, you can't really have a pop at Cork senior for being a protective, proud Dad. I'd be the same.

Agreed. I can understand some reluctance to give new contracts to less important players (didn't Barnard get a new contract and then barely play for us again?) but Cork isn't really in that category. It makes all the stories about lack of communication from the board look more credible.

    Yup, all of this :)

Jay has been working hard, is one of our 3 remaining big players all of whom have been linked with, or want to go to, other clubs. Not offering him a new deal says we aren't serious about keeping anyone, and won't do us any favours with the other 2.

But at the same time, we have a bunch of people bemoaning the death of loyalty in football and the intolerably mercenary types that now populate it. Meanwhile, we've been leaving an important (and quite loyal) squad player twisting in the wind for a long period while we try to suss out whether we might perhaps want to replace him.

We can take a hard-eyed view toward Cork's role at the club, sure. But we can't then be surprised when players take an equally hard-eyed view of the club's future and their role in it.

Corks dad being an idiot to be honest - old people should not have twitter. Next he will be posting a selfie with a sad/angry face.

The majority of people who have Twitter shouldn't have it. It's the ultimate exercise of vanity.

I just don't understand why you would laugh at what they wrote when coming out with that crap. This is a player we value, this is his dad seemingly venting, I'm glad a few of them wrote what they did. You don't need to be ITK to actually give a damn.

Why would be looking to replace Luke with a cheap alternative?
Come on show some ambition for goodness sake!

Does it matter what price they are?

Big money doesn't always equal a great player (Andy Carroll)

SF4L - fair point but why aim so low regarding players regardless of price. We have been linked with a number of left backs who on the face of it are suitable why all of a sudden drop down to this guy.
Snidders said that he would decide on his future when he sees what we do in the transfer market to see if we really do have ambition to hold onto our league position (or improve) and signings like this potential one will do nothing to keep him and a number of our other better players.
PS Get Corky signed up to a new contract. Think he has been great over the last couple of seasons!

Ah but we signed Luke for nothing and it took him 10 years to be any good.
