Paulinho is a tough one. The guy is clearly talented and as I've mentioned before has played roughly 72 games without proper rest since his final season with Corinthians, Confed cup, Spurs move and now World Cup so fatigue can definitely be taken into consideration but most of his performances for us, along with his World Cup have been nothing short of dire and if we're in a position to make a £3m profit on someone who hasn't reached the level we were expecting, are we really in a position to turn it down, especially if the Schneiderlin rumours are to be believed? My personal opinion would be to keep him and save the funds from a potential Schneiderlin purchase for a top class LB. LB is the only position I feel we're weak in, Rose for me isn't good enough to play in a team with our hopes/ targets and as much as I like Benny, he's not getting any younger. A CB, GK, ST are other positions we could strengthen but if we ended the window with only a new LB I'd be happy with that. Paulinho IS a great player, just unfortunately going through a very bad patch of form, hopefully he can have a good rest and come back the player we know he can be under Poch.
Yeah completely agree. On the Tevez front, didn't he leave City due to feeling he'd achieved all he can in England? Not sure why he'd wanna return if that's the case, if he's to leave Juve (not sure if it's for similar reason?) I'd have thought he'd look at going to maybe Germany or Spain if it's a new challenge he wants.
I have a sinking feeling that the only extra personnel Levy is going to be bringing into the club this Summer is a new cleaner and a tea-lady. And, even then, they'll be on a job-share.
I think a centre back is a must in addition to a left back, even if it's only to add to the numbers we have there. If we are going to bank on Kaboul returning to full fitness and form then I think we're mad. I'd also like to see us add some experience in attack but as it looks like Ade and Soldado could well be staying I think we'd only be able to add experience on the left wing and no one springs to mind that's gettable at the moment.
Yeah good point, really hope Kaboul gets back to his best though, on his day I still believe he's better than most in the league. Wouldn't mind a move for de Vrij, really impressed me in the World Cup alongside Vlaar. Attack wise I'm not overly concerned about providing Ade is "happy". On his day there aren't many better in Europe. Soldado will hopefully regain his confidence and be the proper number 9 we've craved and I've always been a fan of Kane, who I think as a 3rd choice striker is a good option to have. LW we've got Townsend and Chadli (amongst others who can fill in), two different types of winger who need to (and I think will) improve, Chadli may work well under Poch as he seems to like the inside-forward type, Lallana featured on the left at times as did Rodriguez.
Paulinho,Dembele,Verts,Benny(is he still a spurs),and i think all our signings will improve this year
Bentaleb's had an amazing 7 months or so. The rest of our youth side must be wondering what they needed to do to get pushed on.
I guess much of it is having someone who believes in you (as a player), Sherwood from the outset identified Bentaleb and just gave him a chance, same with Kane. Rodgers at Liverpool believed in Sterling while another manager may have sent him on loan. I know we jest around with Sherwood but one of his comments which are true, is that young players simply need a chance rather then always looking outside the club.
Oi! Moorpheus! The outgoing list hasn't been updated. Laste Dombaxe, Liam Priestley and Kane Vincent-Young were released two weeks ago: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/player-update-030714/ Also, do we need to add that Gomes joined Watford while Stewart and Vigeroux have moved to Mouserville?
Archer, Fryers, Bentaleb, Carroll and Pritchard could all turn out very well if given a run in the side. As still could Rose and Townsend and even Falque and Ceballos. I'm really hoping that we've now got a manager who will give them a proper chance - as you say one thing that Sherwood couldn't be criticised for.
i would happily drop down the premier league a few places if our youth were getting some experience and kicking some ass every so often. I guess a few on here would be the same. Alas the average fan probably not and the manager would be hounded out
Falque and Ceballos have been involved in the pre-season training, so perhaps they'll be given a chance to impress on the tour? please log in to view this image Redknapp's done his usual, "Triffic player, but he plays for someone else", talk about Dawson, so that might explain why he doesn't appear to want to join Hull. QPR might have to shift one or two before they can make new bids, though. Could get dragged out.
I don't see the point in Falque, strange signing..but yes, if they are part of the first team squad then they deserve a chance to at least show if they have the right attitude and could make an impact. I mocked Harry Kane early last season but he has shown he may well have a future of some part, even if its just as a squad player. Although we have to be careful as we all remember Dean Marney, scores two screamers and then never to be seen again!
Falque was always going to be an odd signing, though at times, he did show remarkable quality. Couple years back in Europa, we faced a Macedonian side I think and although naturally the quality of that side isn't superb, Falque was superb and then not long after was then loaned out. Like with most players, Kane being an example, they need a proper run of first team games in the league before being truly judged upon in my opinion.
Its off season, world cup has finished and you're probably enjoying the heat so this is the only time of the year you can get away with using remarkable and Falque in the same sentence!
