Thanks Spanner82. I'm assuming that myself, PhilHul & Sharpy can come to an agreement on a single charity, hopefully in short order. That would allow us to use the "Just Giving" facility would it not ?

If it was just the one charity then yes but after investigating in online fundraising, I would use a different site as just giving take a percentage whereas other sites dont

As I said, Justgiving is fine for UK based donations as gift aid covers their share, but with non UK taxpayers involved their cut does make a hole (something like 15% I think)

I might not fully understand this tax angle North FerribyTiger, but as an ex-pat, presumably if I had a family member or friend resident in the UK paying UK taxes, then I could get them to submit the donation on my behalf to the appropriate charity & avoid the 15 % hit ? I'd just send the family member or friend the funds to cover the donation ?

TC.......I am fine with supporting the Alzheimers Society as it looks like I am about to have a family member diagnosed with this terrible condition.

    PhilHul,
First of all let me say I am sincerely sorry to hear about the diagnosis you may be facing with your family member. I have myself experienced such a situation with my late mum,who died in Willerby in 2011, and more recently with a very close friend of long standing. As you say, it is an awful condition and so hard on everyone associated with the unfortunate person. It seems that efforts through research are making strides in the right direction to identify ways to minimize the odds of contracting the disease, and more techniques for therapy and drug development to alleviate the afflicted individuals themselves. More is needed on this front, including developing carer support sytems...which are sadly underfunded. As our ageing population are living longer the funding for solutions around this disease will only get worse, and more family members or friends will be exposed to it's devastating impact.
I am very glad that you support me in my charity selection. Thank you.
I shall wait a few days( do you think a week will be sufficent) to see if our co-winner Sharpy joins the two of us in our selected charity.
I shall work with Spanner82, who's being very helpful indeed, in coming up with the best method for delivering sponsor's pledges to the official registered charity.
Thanks to you, and I guess we should thank the German team for their part in this.
    Cheers PhilHul.

That would work...there is still the 15% hit but the donations are topped up by 20% tax relief if gift aid is chosen & the donor is a UK taxpayer

Cheers..it might be that only Mrs_BLUE MOUNTAINS_BEAR & myself are affected by this as ex-pat donors, but it's good to know in case anyone else living abroad have relatives back home who could maximize the cash that actually ends up with the charity. Thanks for pointing it out.

Congratulations TC and Phil on winning the WC sweepstakes. Add me to the list of ex-pat donors. Have we decided on Alzheimers then? My wifes mom died of that awful disease so I'll be happy to contribute. Let us know where to send it.

Alzheimers would be a great charity to support - I'm sure we all know of friends/relatives who have suffered and the article re Jock Davidson is especially poignant. The Alzheimers Society also have a donation link on their website so would be ideal.

Agreed. I'll post a link to their official site sometime on Sunday. There's a section on donation methods, which would be secure & allow for anonymity. I suppose those who donate could put it in the name of "not606 Hull City forum" is that is what we want to do ?
Anything else we should be thinking of Spanner ?

Mrs_BLUE_MOUNTAINS_BEAR's post (#362) suggested 675, but there may be other subsequent pledges ?
