Bloody good player, one of Ath. Madrid's main men for a few years now..
£32m seems the going rate nowadays for decent players, doesn't mean I agree on the price, but what can you do when the Oil Clubs pay stupid fees on average players.
Luiz to PSG for 50m being a prime example!

What does everyone think to this line up? (Assuming that Lovren, Moreno and Markovic arrive)

    ------------------- Reina ----------------------
    --Flanno---Lovren---Sakho---Moreno—
    -----Emre Can------------Henderson------
    --Sterling------Coutinho---Markovic-----
    -----------------Sturridge----------------------

This is not a slight against Gerrard. The only reason he’s not in there is because we need to find his understudy this season by using him more sparingly.
I’ve chosen Reina because there aren’t many other experienced players in the starting line up.
Moreno will be the attack minded full back with Flanaghan balancing things out on the other side.
Can holding mid, reads the game very well, covers lots of ground and is a strong lad.
Hopeful that Henderson can replicate last season’s performances when Gerrard was out of the team
Coutinho needs to step up in the creative role. Was quiet last season and can maybe see this as a weak area
Markovic, Sterling and Sturridge will be lightning fast – but I worry about the finishing.

I think it's a very young inexperienced side. Could do with one or two players in there that have been there and done it before.

Who else would you like to see in there?

Not bad... but until those players are signed and sealed, I wouldn't add them to the list..
Pepe will have to eat a shed load of humble pie if he's to get back into the team.
Lovern may not happen, so could be Skrtel, who to be fair was damn decent last year.. Sakho to hopefully stay injury free for a long period this year.
Flanno certainly adds more defensively and we've enough attack minded players that we don't need our FBs bombing down the wings ALL the time.
I think Can will be bought in gently, not phasing Gerrard out, more phasing Can in...
Think the likes of Sterling, Ford, John Malkovic, Lallana, maybe Suso will be rotated, can't see us spending 16m on Lallana and have him sit on the bench.

I think this is ok. But Can is only 20 and arriving in a new country. I dont think we should throw him in at the deep end. Especially over Gerrard. Pressure!

I think only one of Sterling and Markovic will start most of the time.

Out of interest, who would captain your team?

Very good question RE: Captain. As stated in the post, I think that the team is too young and inexperienced. With that in mind, I'd consider Reina. But then to have a player coming back in from the cold and straight in as Captain wouldn't work in my opinion. I think I'd have to go Henderson. I really am hoping for big things from the lad. We saw what he was capable of in a few games last season and I hope he would step up if given the armband.

Personally I think Gerrard being 34 is not a reason to drop him. He is still in decent enough shape to start atleast most games.

I say our strongest team with our current players is:

    ------------Mignolet----------
    Flanagan-Skrtel-Sakho-Enrique
    ------------Gerrard-----------
    ----Henderson---Coutinho-----
    -Lallana---------------Sterling-
    -----------Sturridge-----------

I think this is a good creative and well balanced team.

It could still do with a leader at the back and maybe another star in attack.

    -

Today the Guardian are linking us to Reus and Lukaku. Reus would get in my team, ahead of Lallana (and Lallana would be a great deputy). But for me Lukaku would be on the bench (solid back up to Sturridge! Lukaku would start in a diamond system with Sturridge).

It looks like Markovic will sign. I would rotate him with Sterling and also gain a great impact sub from which of the two does not start. Young, fast players need to be rested from time to time to avoid injuries like Walcott and Owen, so it is important for us to have two players to do that role.

Cavani has apparently said he'd like to move to England. United, Chelsea and Arsenal linked. Should we?

Too expensive. Getting on a bit.
    High wages.

And haven't seen him play well in any game I've watched since he played for Napoli.

Don't think he's all that tbh, plus he'd cost a bomb.

The Guardian aren't reporting that. It's merely part of their gossip column and they're recycling the jarg Caught offside 'exclusive'

The only thing that makes the transfer feasible is the fact that he's injured.

Lukaku only if there is a clause in his contract stating his hair must be kept at least long enough to cover his ears

Reus would be a "statement" signing.. however no point making a statement if he doesn't fit...
But saying that, the boy is so good, he'd fit into most systems!
Would I like it to happen, yes..
Will it happen, don't think so!
His likely destination in 2015 (not this year) is either Bayern, Barca or RM..
