    I think I read BBC is 750p, ITV is 500p, HD is 1080i. It's why you get the blurred effect around players etc on ITV.

    Last time I bothered with HD broadcast TV, the problem with blurring around players was compression artefacts. Doesn't matter how many lines being displayed if the codec compresses it to ****.

    Great final, deserving winners. And despite the fact I'd backed Argentina, thank god it ended with a bit of world class skill and didn't have to go to penalties.

    Had the pleasure of watching the game on a large TV screen at one of the cafe bars sprinkled around Plaza Mayor here in Palma. Best attendance for a WC match in the Plaza. Lots of different nationalities. As for the match coverage, at half-time and full-time adverts were shown, so thankfully we were spared a panel of "experts" giving their so insightful analysis. So what could the Beeb do to spare everyone 15 minutes of people droning on! Here's my idea - show the highlights from the weekend's rugby league matches!! Well they could implement this practice when the Euros come round again in 2016!!

    Totally agree with you Al. Argentina's midfield was very ordinary their collective ability being no better than an average Premiership or Serie A side. They had a good defence, great organisational skills to weather the German and Dutch attacks plus standout players in attack to nick a goal. Exceeded expectations.

    Surely the world's best player doesn't need to be in the world's best team to win things? A good player will look better in the right team.

    Personally, I don't think Messi would stand out as much in the PL. Those huge goal tallies don't happen here.
