Lol, because even with the best scouts that on its own has more risk of failure. And there's my point in a way. You've accepted that some are complaining because of no big names, you are complaining that we don't get them before they make even a small name for themselves, others complain when we DO take that medium to low priced gamble and they're never seen on the first team. The reality has shown whether we like it or not that outside of England which is overpriced our attraction is not half what we think it is. We can't and won't pay the real financial killer of big wages because we're not a stable CL team again yet. Our stadium is not yet big enough either. I'd rather we do what we are doing which is less frustrating than arsenal, they won the league then settled for CL stability. Let's get CL stability or at least perennially CL competitive with a solid team base that doesn't rely on the one or two WC players to be so. Because as we've seen in recent years there's teams those players consider bigger even after we get them. They leave and what's left is once again mediocre. Get the overall squad quality and stability as boring as that is up and then add the WC players. Then they'll not feel like they're carrying our club each time.
If budgeted correctly then it's not a problem. Sign X for Y and pay them Z wages for the length of their contract should be one complete package and a budget commitment
That op list is an insult to spurs as spurs would at least by lads with foreign names so nobody would realise they are gash
Unless he has a **** season on 200k, but 3 guys on 70k have a great season and next year nobody wants him but the three actual decent players quite rightly say, we want the same for doing the actual job? But we're still not winning the trophy but now have big wages across the board..... Which is why at the moment I don't think it can be budgeted correctly....without big risk.
I think Markovic & Moreno are certs to come (assuming we up our value for Moreno or include Aspas). Can't see us going to Bony/Rodriguez though. Origi is pretty much done it seems but definitely wont be for £19m, no idea where they picked that number from as most sources have quoted £6m with add ons up to £9m with a loan back. Lovren, can't see us going above £20m for him and he's apparently linked back up with Saints on their pre-season training now.
How are signings like Lovren, Lallana & Bony going to guarantee us champions league football? These types of signings are exactly the ones Dalglish made which cost us dearly. This "premier league proven" stuff just does not work as simply as you think it does, just because someone has a decent record for Swansea it does not make them suitable for a top 4/title challenge.
Ok, and how many of Chelseas big names won them the league? Is that stat around, honest question, x trophies vs pounds spent? Doesn't matter because we can't play the game.....again my point.
Who won the title again? That modest Manchester club with no world class players, and a solid team full of ex-Southampton, Swansea & West Ham players? No one's saying we need to sign a team of Messi's or Ronaldo's, the point is that most are unhappy at the level of our targets. Markovic could have potential to become world class, so no one has a problem with his signing. Lovren, Lallana, Bertrand, Bony etc though? They are realistically at the peak of their powers now, they aren't going to improve an awful lot from the level they are currently playing at, and we are going to be spending close to £70m on them. And the fact that we would be spending that much money on them if we sign them, indicates that theses are intended to be first choice players for the foreseeable future. You seem to think that we'll be spending £20m on Lovren, £20m on Bony, £25m on Lallana etc to 'sort the squad' and that we'll be spending even more money in the near future to upgrade on them with WC players. That isn't going to happen!
All that I can think when I read the title of this thread is...that LFC are going to spend £135m on subscriptions to porn sites.
Didnt Mankini get sacked for not cutting it with the big expensive names? What did Chelsea do? We are overpaying but dont we also complain about not paying the asking price on the players BR wants?
The problem is we overpay on players that we don't need to and decide we aren't going to pay for players that are worth the transfer fee. The finest example is the fact we went in with a derisory offer for Suarez of £12m and nearly pissed off Ajax to the point where they almost decided to stop dealing with us completely, and we just went straight in with a £30m offer for Andy Carroll.
You arent the manager though, let him do what he thinks is right and he will either be celebrated or hung for it
I have always said Rodgers has earned enough credit over the last 2 seasons for the owners the back him fully with the players he wants. That doesn't mean as fans we can't voice our disapproval at the signings or potential signings we are making.
At the moment, we've only got in Lallana as an overpriced player. Can for £10m looks decent enough value given his age and experience and potential. Lambert at £4m is pretty much risk free. Lovren is the only one we've actually bid for it seems and yes £20m is overpriced but luckily Saints didn't accept so can't see us going back with a higher offer. In ters of the others its all just rumours so lets not bite Rodgers and the recruitment team off just yet.
No of course it doesnt Just give him time, still early days really, still another 5 weeks to go until KO.................................lets see how we turn out and play without Suarez
I think fans, generally, have a fairly good idea of players' quality and what's needed in the team. Obviously the manager has his idea for how they want to play, but the fans aren't usually far wrong - the off exception aside. No one's saying the players we're linked with are bad players, just that you'd expect a little better for that money! 75mill burning a hole in the pocket, back in the CL and we're linked with premier league players (who are known to be over priced anyway) who were simply ok last season. No one wants to be like City or Chavski, spunking out 40/50million on worldies with egos and huge wage bills, but we can certainly be spending what we do have on some decent talent from abroad. I know Shaqiri has now decided to stay at Bayern, but he was uncertain until this week. We should have given an acceptable offer to Bayern and at least had the chance to speak to him and try to tempt him here. Shaqiri would have cost the same as what Bony will cost us if the media are to believed...who would you prefer we bid(ded) for? Btw, Mancini's team of superstars failed because he was a **** manager, defensive and had a team of mercenaries who didn't have any passion for the team. Generally though, big players perform.
