Amazingly one dimensional outlook on a vast subject. As was said by Staines, if an 'artist' sits and draws a landscape or building then he is not an artist? Does the subject have to be alive or physically there in front of you to count as a work of art? He's just recreating an image he can see on a blank canvas using a few simple tools. You have to understand that art encompasses many forms, such as buildings, music, literature, dance. Stand up comics practice their art but that's verbal. Does it count? Is it about creating something new? Photography is considered an art also but all that is being done a button being pressed to capture an already created scene. Just because one form is not agreeable with you doesn't mean it's not fact. Tracy Emin just sold her "My Bed" modern artwork for £2.2m. Thats just a unmade bed with other bits and pieces. I saw a woman using dyed soy milk, swallow it and then puke it out on a blank board...and it's called art. I personally don't like those forms of art but accept it comes under the banner, as does digital art. It's just a different genre. Some forms are simpler, some more creative. I think you're stuck in the past NY in your beliefs that art seems to be about some person with a dodgy moustache, an easel and brushes sat in a field. Modern art is huge and plays a part in this world like it or not. I certainly don't go around calling myself an artist, but I have the ability to do something that I hope brings a little pleasure to some people even in a small way......and it's nice to have some sort of 'skill' to share with others in a positive way.
Ahh NY is allowed his point of view no matter how narrow minded he is. Shame he can't actually debate it in a more adult way. Nevermind. Anyway I do earn a little bit from my pictures. No not millions..far far from that. It's like football...there's a few that earn millions, some that earn thousands, and then the vast majority of people that play football earn nothing or a pittance....but still do it because they enjoy it and get something back from it other than the good old dollar. I personally earn a little bit here and there but generally do it as I enjoy it and others do too. That's all that matters in the end so have a nice day buddy.
Listen guys, I just dont believe sitting with a photo in front of you, probably drawing grid marks on it and doing a straight copy is art. Obviously some people are able to do it better than others but that ability is not art. Sitting in front of a sunflower, building, trees or a person and putting your own impression of it down on a canvas or whatever, and doing it well, is art. That is my opinion, others obviously disagree, but its still just my opinion.
Oh, and by the way, I think if we were offered 6 mill for Charlie we should take it. Thats just my opinion!
Those drawings are outstanding Gloucester. I used to do a bit myself, but haven't for years now. Maybe i'll pick it up again. Iv'e got say, when i saw Phil Parkes gloved hand,i thought you'd got his fingers way too short, then after seeing the photograph, it seems Phil just had stubby fingers like mine(and i play guitar ). Keep up the good work mate. As for the comments from QPRNY, do i sense a little bit of Jealousy there ?
I'll forgive you that comment as it comes from someone who supports Hull City and is probably not to bright!
