Rather have Clyne on the right and a lb brought in to be first choice. Targett has plenty of years left to be first choice and battle it out for the first choice position.

I think you have a fairly low opinion of Jose. He's generally bloody good, on the whole. Easily PL quality. CL quality is another matter. Got to get first though. Plus one is forgetting Yoshida, who'll get better under Koeman, I suspect. Are they both going to sit on the bench..?

    Jos will, of course. :)

Did I say I have a low opinion of Jose? I said if and it's a big if Lovren stays him and the new cb will be first choice. No where did I say I wanted to drop Jose at all. If we sign Dijk no way will be back up and neither will Lovren if he stays.

Clyne playing at LB gets mentioned so much on here but how often has it actually happened? I'd be surprised if he's played there for us more than 2 or 3 times.

I'm more keen to know what CB we're going to sign.

Exactly. I'm with Beefy on this one. It's an emergency option. I found it horrid watching him tear up the left hand side, then get into a crossing position and not quite know what to do as he has no left foot. Time after time. Just too predictable.

Clyne on the left is, for me on this site, as confusing as people saying "great to see Sharp back in the squad" and "interesting to see how Sharp does"? Why? To me that's just highlighting how thin the squad is. Sharp isn't good enough. I mean I'm sure he's a lovely chap and all that, but let's not pretend he's of the requisite standard to take us forward.

Yep I agree, he is my fave Saints player personality wise. But that does make him a good enough player.

No you didn't, which is why I said I think... It's an opinion based on your overall message.

Personally, I think they'll have a hard job getting a better CB in than Jose, for fair money rather than excessive, and therefore I think we'll see him in the starting line-up next season, whether or not Dejan stays. That's my opinion.

Just picking up on the Clyne on the left comment. Whilst I think Nat is the best RB at Southampton [sorry Calum, you're great, but not as good in that position, in my opinion], I do think he makes a pretty fair LB as well. Whilst I would hate for him to waste his career there, seeing as he is such a pearl at RB, I do think he can fill in very well at any time. And that includes moving him across in times of illness or injury to any default LBs.

As for Sharp, I think it's nice for him to go with the squad. For me, in his condition and form of last season, he's a spectator. But if he lost a few pounds [he's always on the slightly chubby side for me - not Boruc level though] he might be a impact poacher in a few games. In any case, being with the squad will not do him any harm at all.

Clyne should be a right back and a left back back up option if Targett doesn't come through as we'd like. I actually really enjoyed Chambers and Clyne battling it out last season and we need that depth across the team wherever possible.

The point beef is making is about the 'when required'

We need a LB or else Clyne becomes the default choice and that is not what we want for the squad.

Yeah, think he'll move from a RB to CB due to his height. He isn't that quick, but does have a bit of skill.
