I think we always set a trend in the transfer window of going for targets that are simply unrealistic and clubs that have recently gone up and stayed up show that you don't always need to go abroad/expensive to get a team that can keep you in the prem Look at palace's signings in Jan! We should be fleecing the championship for young, hungry British talent, small fees with add ons etc Take the Lacelles bid, nott forest wont be able to turn down £5m with add ons. If we stay up and they get another £2m and he played over 30 games then every ones a winner.
Exactly, didn't they previously turn down £7m from arsenal? Even the realistic transfers are stupid money now.
Any Championship side that believe they are in with a shout of promotion will want to keep their best players. The only reason they will sell is if they are offered enough money that they feel just can't be turned down.
The eighty-odd million a year staying in the EPL is stupid money, so why not spend that stupid money on decent young hungry stupid money signings
Perhaps the owners, having already subbed the club £177m, have decided that at least trying to live within our means would be sensible. We need the Prem money to keep the club going. We lost £65m in 2013, even after getting Prem money for that year.
We got Austin for £4m, this guy is not worth 2 Austins. We should move onto the next target even if it gets to the point where we have to sign ferdinand. We should be paying whatever the clubs and players ask us to. That's not a way to run a business.
Transfers is a subject I am always overwhelmed with and can't really comment on. All I can do is wait and watch and hope we sign some good players. I don't really know who'd be perfectly right and I don't know who we're likely to go for. I'd rather not stress over it.
Every club gets bargains. Every club buys a flop. You cant expect every signing to exceed expectations. Or base all singings on whether they meet the the "Charlie Austin valuation" expectation/target. Are you seriously suggesting, that we only sign players that meet your valuation target !!
Yes,that's how any business should be run. I'd rather follow the arsenal way of having a self sustaining model than the chelsea way of throwing money down the drain.
mmmmm, I smell another thread. Name an Arsenal overpaid flop !!! Gervinho or Squillaci anyone ? £42mil for Ozil ? Really ?
First season we were up we signed rubbish players that no one wanted...Anton, SWP etc. This didn't work. Second season we spent big on 'big names'...Granero, Bosingwa, Samba etc. This didn't work. This year we're not signing anyone...who knows, can't be worse than the above!!!!
Yet they made money. They are self sustainable and they aren't relying on people imputing a hundred million every season to keep the club solvent. Wenger was told to spend the ozil money by the board as they had so much saved up. I really hope your job doesn't involve negotiations because you won't last long in it.
I agree with Flyer (for once!) If more clubs were run like arsenal we wouldn't have these silly valuations.
