They are actually having racing on turf at Southwell? Amazing...

The big race on Sunday is over in Paris in the evening: the Grand Prix de Paris, traditionally the feature of Bastille Day celebrations in the French capital.

I cannot understand why Roger Varian ran Kingston Hill in the Eclipse Stakes last Saturday on fast ground where he had absolutely no chance of winning, rather than wait for this mile-and-a-half Group 1 on a track where the going was described on Friday as “very soft” and is unlikely to have dried up too much by race time. That would have been perfect for the Derby runner-up.

I do not think that The Grey Gatsby will be winning because he will not stay the trip even if the race is run at a married man’s gallop like they usually go in France. Ten furlongs is his trip, he should be going to York.

Can the beaten Prix Du Jockey Club favourite Prince Gibraltar get his act together this time? I notice that Christophe Soumillon has been booked this time after the dreadful ride that he got from Gérald Mossé at Chantilly (not that Jean-Claude Rouget’s chestnut would have won that day); and the extra two furlongs has got to help.

The main dangers come from Andre Fabre’s yard – he has pretty much farmed the race this century, so Golden Guepard and Gallante both have to be respected.

Think Alan King's Uriah Heep with Dickie Johnston up in the 3.20 Stratford should take all the beating. Piles of money for it, I backed this morning at 7-2.

I'll mini boom that even though the SP was a bit miserly! Was 9-2 last night when I first spotted it but 7-2 is OK.
