So tonight see's the end of a pretty decent World Cup - Certainly better than the South African one with all those ****ing silly things making loud noises.

I won't add a Poll as for one I can't be arsed, and secondly - there maybe too many names to put on, as people will obviously have their own subjective views.

What I ask is who for you has been the player of the tournament. Simply a name and a reason why.

Please stay on topic - all wums will be castrated. So the only person allowed to wum is Luv - but he's at the depot....apparentely :bandit:

    So for me:

Mascherano - He has been immense for Argentina, and I truly believe without him they would not be in tonights final. His all round game throughout the tournament has been incredible. Just show's imo he's still the best DM in world football, and is being wasted at Barca playing as a CB. The game against the dutch, was probably the best I've ever seen him play. An absolute monster, and should be captain of Argentina - as I personally believe he is far more important to the team than Messi, not saying he's a better player, but he's a better leader by far.

Unfortuantely I think an attacking player will win the award (if there is one?), as attacking players always win these type of things.

i reckon it will be given to Klose,

reason, he has beaten ronaldo (proper one!) record and fifa and brazil will want to make out like he has been great, when i think he has been average personally.

my choice, not sure, i have been impressed with Muller.

Hmmmmmmm.... There is an argument for a couple of keepers babas Costa Rica and medicos pochard for example. Really then you are wondering about Germany and player like muller who's had lumps kicked out of his head and scored the goals too

    Whazzhisface upfront for Costa Rica

Hummels for me, scored a couple times and made Germany look solid when he came back into the team, making up for how crap and slow Mertersacker is.

He's got to be in with a shout of one of the worst players at the tournament. Bar 1 game he was comical. He literally doesn't know the basics of defending.

He's also now the worlds most expensive defender.....WTF the worlds gone bonkers <laugh>

    That's a good shout.

I'd be gutted if he ended up at Utd - which if you believe the rumours is a strong possibility.

  9. Is it too obvious to say James Rodriguez?

Neuer. Guy has been brilliant in goal and sweeping up allowing Germany to play a high line and pressure the opposition.

    Mascherano? Behave.

He was indeed brilliant in the SF and defo MOTM in that game, but player of the tournament? Not a chance

For me there's a few contenders, Robben was great throughout, Muller has been Mr Consistent for the Gerries and before his injury Neymar carried the entire Brazilian team on his back

  13. I think Robbens been poor. Muller is a great shout though.

Ironic when you've just lumped for an ex-kopite who'd not get a mention in this context by virtually anyone......

    Robben, James, muller

Chances are it will be muller due to him being in the final and possibly finishing top scorer.

Apart from a lot of pundits who have been singing his praises and Schweinstrieger saying about his importance.

Look at that Argentina defence, average at best yet they have a very good defensive record despite Messi higuain di Maria doing no defensive work. Mascherano is vital to that team and how they play.

Oh look, Tobes turning another thread into an anti-liverpool/pro-liverpool discussion. Why can't people just ignore him and make the world a happier place...

It'll obviously go to a player from the top teams.
It'll of course go to a player who's a big name too.
Most likely it'll be a forward player.
That's generally how any player of the tournament is decided...

So it'll be between Muller, James Rodriguez and Robben.

Honorable mentions to other players who I would have has contenders such as Cuadrado, Hummels, Mascherano, Neuer and Campbell (Costa Roca in the QF? Amazing really).

Being an ex-Kopite has nothing to do with why I chose Mascherano. But you do like to assume don't you?

Do you think Argentina would be in the final without Masherano? I'd bet my house they wouldn't. Like IBWT says, they're defense isn't the greatest and Masherano has literally dragged that defense through games.
