If we didn't sign any players you may be right, but we have and they sound like better than the norm for us.I think a top 10 upwards myself, and see Smith getting in the 20s this season with better service.
Apart from McContract, who of the leavers was useful? (I'll give you Brown, but can't think of anyone else). So all we're missing is the McContract goals. Quite sure the team we have left can score as many as we did last season. So, we'll achieve mid-table mediocrity with what we've got. THEN you add the signings that are coming in. I'm quite sure they all won't set the heather alight, but some of them will certainly improve us, if Cellino's track record for signings is anything to go by. So why so negative, especially after scoring 16 goals? Don't tell me the team we played was crap. So were Harrrogate last season & they cuffed us bigstyle. There is good reason to be optimistic atm. I cannot see any reason for negativity presently, and it disappoints me that the supporters are not 100% behind the team.
If you're struggling to sleep, you could do worse than watch the might Partick Thistle play down in Brighton. Live stream from 18:00 ... http://www.seagulls.co.uk/news/article/live-stream-albion-v-partick-k.o-7pm-6pm-uk-time-1749232.aspx Edit: Actually, it's worth tuning in for the quality swearing!
I wish I hadn't bothered answering Waccoe's question now, he asked where do we see us finishing next season. We have signed three players who none of us have any idea how good or bad they will be. Yes we can be hopeful but we need a lot more than those three hence why I said if the season started today, I also said I am hopeful that we will sign more players who will turn us around. It is far too early to answer that question (where will we finish), we might bring in another 4-5 players, we might end up with players no better than Pugh, Green and Varney, I am just trying to remain grounded until we see who else we get and if they can perform in the Championship. Look at it another way, if one of our rivals signed the three players we have just signed along with the same coach and came on this forum and started bragging that they were going to finish top 6 we would all take the piss out of them asking who?? I am not being negative, just common sense surely shouts out we are not YET good enough, this time next week maybe we will have another 3-4 classy signing but maybe we won't. This exact same excitement was evident last season with GFH and look where we ended up. I am optimistic that things are and will get better but I am not going to get excited about signing three foreign players and a coach that we all had to look up on Wiki As for the 16-0 yes sounds very impressive, no idea how bad the opposition was, I look at the Leeds team and if anyone believes that team as it stands could finish top 10 then they are in for a big crashing down to earth. Leeds first half: Silvestri, Byram, Killock, Pearce, Taylor, Austin, Norris, White, Hunt, Morison, Walters. Leeds second half: Taylor (Cairns), Thompson, Lees, Skelton, Warnock, Cook, Tonge, Murphy, Dawson (Blackman), Smith, Poleon.
You never fail to disappoint. If you found a tenner you would be suicidal because it wasn't a twenty!
You have lost McCormack and replaced him with a shed load of Italian freebies no one wants. Ristac is right if you dont bring in any top drawer players you will go down
Only three go down matey. You lot have one of those slots and we will be be better than Rotherham and the dog botherers to name but two others. Put the rod down.
Does this team, picked from those remaining from last season, look like relegation fodder? ............Cairns Byram Lees Pearce Warnock ...Murphy Austin Tonge ...Hunt Smith Poleon I don't think it's a particularly brilliant team, but I really don't think they'd take us down. I firmly believe we can only get better this season, given the dross we've got rid of; the possibilities the new kids & new signings bring; & the fact that a year is a long time for last years' newbies/kids to bed in better.
Seriously, as this squad stands today you don't believe we would be in a relegation fight, I am surprised. YES of course, same defence as this season, same midfield and those three between them up front would not score the goals or have the supply or service. Am I missing something?? What has changed, this is virtually the squad minus Ross that got stuffed time and time again. Again, let's wait and see who else we bring in, if they are not better than those 11 we are in trouble.
Nope, I am convinced that the dross we have offloaded and the greedy primadona getting shipped out will bond yup he team in a way we haven't sen for a long time. We won't go up but we won't go down.
I believe Ross was a negative influence, let's hope you are right and lets hope we bring in a few more players who will make a difference.
im not fishing that was exactly how i see it where Leeds are concerned you have Hockaday,Cellino,Nicola, and Lewis, and half a squad (who have next to zero experience of the championship) as things stand i believe you will struggle badly
Personally, I would hope that we'd never pick this team, but to answer your points: Same defence: Yip, but a new coaching team. Might make all the difference. Might! Same midfield: Sadly, yes, but I believe we'll see more of the real Murphy this season. Lots of players have struggled with us in their first season. I also don't have a problem with Tonge. Never have done. Reliable, puts in a good shift, and is capable of the creativity we so lack. Austin? Depends which one turns up! Front 3 not scoring goals?: They just did. 10 between them! It's a well known adage in football that you can play against 11 dustbins and not score. We just scored 16. Got to give credit where it's due. Didn't take their foot off the pedal once. Are you missing something?: You seem to be at odds with most of us on this, so yes, I guess you are missing something. It's tough being optimistic after 10 years of shiite, and some of us can respond easier than others, I guess. Key point I mentioned earlier - new coaching team. Might not be the best coaching team in the world, but by all accounts, the bonding, morale & enthusiasm in Italy seems to be excellent. When was the last time our dressing room was together in such a fashion? Lets see who else we bring in: Agreed. Even the mediocre team above would only achieve mediocrity at best, with a thin squad behind it. I have no idea what our new signings are like, but I do have faith in Cellino's scouting operation and his track record in picking up decent players. I don't think I've been as excited in a pre-season since the PL days!
Hence why I asked what am I missing that everyone else on here is seeing, I wouldn't say my opinion is at odds with most, I would say virtually everyone. As for goals, you know it will be a 0-0 tomorrow now don't you
Well if a Swiss 2nd div side can beat them 4.1, I reckon we can score against them as well. Ristac, I'm not overly excited about all these foreigners joining the club and we may have another ****e season, but we are trying to be positive, blindly maybe, but after 10+ years of crap, can you blame us.
I am more optimistic this time around, the initial signs are good but like I said, just remaining grounded for the time being.
Think Shaks nailed it for you. I tried in my previous post, but failed miserably. Basically, it's a return of faith & hope. Simple as that. As I alluded though, when you've been hurt, some come round quicker than others. And boy, have we been hurt! And yes, either 0-0, or we'll get cuffed bigstyle.
