Please then dont compare his scoring rate with Gomis. Donelly has scored his 1 in 2.7 against 17 and 18 year olds from championship sides not PSG Marseille. So your comparison is a bit of apples and oranges as you like to say.
I am comparing 2 strikers goal scoring rate (like for like )with each other which is all we have to go on. You actually have made the same comparison with Bony and Gomis on another thread and pointed out how Gomis is nowhere near a good enough replacement for Bony based on strike rate. I have merely used the same logic. My apples and oranges analogy was based on your point that because Fulton had played 2 games in the PL then Donnely wasn't good enough. You made the comparison of a striker who had Bony in front of him in the pecking order and a midfielder who at that time due to circumstance had more options thats all. Hey its just my opinion no sweat>
Sorry but comparing strike rates between the top league in France and the U21 league here doesn't sound logical at all.
Luiz is now playingfor PSG. Anybody care to speculate on what their goals against is likely to be this season.
It was only a matter of time before ML was blamed for Donnelley not being up to the task. He was given a chance against Petrolul (an inpportant Euripean Cup games) and even his team mates were throwing their arms in the air by the time he was subbed. He really was way out of his depth.
He had one poor game in Europa while Vasquez was crap every game he played yet ML still picked him instead of giving Donnelly a fair crack at the whip. Granted, Donnelly might not be good enough for this level, but Laudrup never gave him a chance to show if he is good enough.
Donelley is older than Pozuelo but done nothing close to him yet he has made the tour. I think Garry needs to be ruthless here and make his mind up on the likes of Donelly,Tate and Jazz . Im sure all 3 can offer something but can they offer enough ? If the kid was desperate to make it he would have stuck out his loan spell at Coventry just to get some games under his belt. He stayed there 24hrs before coming home, im not sure thats the correct attitude for a kid who is well payed and needs to get games and prove himself.
Valley GM did the same with a totally s**t Lita and he played Vasquez in front of Donelly. Perhaps both GM and ML realised that Donelly ient good enough.
But he was tied down with loan to Coventry. He has been ineligible to play for us since Monk took over.
Ask why the kid returned from his loan spell after a day. Why would anyone do that ? especially somebody young who is desperate to impress, maybe he thinks he is better than he actually is . What he should have done is tough it out on loan no matter what, work hard and prove himself but no, he returned here and sat on his arse for the rest of the season, IMO there seems to be bit of an attitude in there somewhere.
Appologies you are correct, forgot about the Coventry thing. I still dont thik we will ever see him in the PL unless we have all other stikers out injured.
Why would you give a player you know isn't good enough game time? Even NI only gave him 1 international cap at under 21 level. Both Schekter and Vasquez had far more about them, at least they could pass, tackle and keep up with play. going on the Europa Cup game Donnelley couldn't. I would go as far as to say a decent Sunday league player would have given a better show.
Although Vasquez didn't cut it with us, his strike rate (14/24?) for the various Spain "under" international teams was superb. It was entirely reasonable for him to be given every chance to find that sort of form. History shows he didn't but there was nothing wrong with the logic behind it. As for young Donelly, I can only assume that he is not cutting it in training. I'd love it if he could succeed with us..... for his sake as well as ours.
i find it strange that some on here are pushing for Donelly, yet we have a supremely talented 22 year old who people are happy to see go over supposedly issue behind the scenes. Poz has more talent in his little toe than Donelly has yet some seem happy to get rid of him. Come on Mr Monk do what you are paid to do and get his attitude right and back involved in the squad. We have a gem on our hands with him.
Rory really needs a championship loan move. to see what hes about! a team like leeds or blackburn would be tidy.to see if he can do a job.
I'd love to see him stay, but maybe he is hell bent on leaving and there is nothing Monk can do to change his mind, so the sooner he goes the better?
Maybe you are right mate. But maybe it is GM or HJ that are forcing him out. Many a player with an attitude problem have been turned around by a good manager. My friends son travelled on the same plane as him when he was reporting back. He told him he was looking forward to getting back and pre season. But then he wasnt going to tell him that he didnt want to go back and coant wait to leave. Who knows what will happen or what has happened. just seems a massive waste of a very talented footballer.
Interesting quotes from Laudrup on Donnelly after pre-season last year - http://www.southwales-eveningpost.c...hine-Premier/story-19837101-detail/story.html I think we chose the wrong club for him in Coventry. We need to put him into a decent side with a similar philosophy. We can't confirm what the reasons were for what happened in Coventry, but I think it's unfair to just label it as an 'attitude problem'. Coventry reported it as "personal reasons". I get the feeling that that he wasn't consulted about the move. What's more, it was mentioned on this thread somewhere that our players were "throwing their arms up in the air by the time he was subbed" in his Europa League match. Well...he wasn't subbed as confirmed by these two links (http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/300147/teams and http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23790978), so I've no idea what that comment was all about. I'm sorry, but one of my personality traits is to not let people get away with loose, unfounded comments. Let's give him a good pre-season, put him into a decent Championship or League 1 side that all parties are happy with for a season, and if he flops, well...he's going to have to work his way up from the bottom then, because we'll probably offload him to a League 2/Conference side. Or he'll go back to play in the Irish leagues.
