Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis is smashing the club's signing record to buy Cardiff centre half Steven Caulker in a £8million deal. Pulis has matched the England international's fixed price - and his money men are going to pay him £42,000-a-week to join. It is a stunning package and a huge statement by the Eagles who have outbid Harry Redknapp's QPR or the former Tottenham defender. Caulker spoke to both clubs and the financial deal at Selhurst Park is better - with Pulis also convincing him it is a good career move. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...-clinch-transfer-steven-3845429#ixzz37CBLiGDC
Didn't the mirror say Williams having medical with us? So what the fcuk do they know, but like you said hope it's BS.
He doesn't want to come, he went back to Cardiff trying to get a better deal, he then waits for Liverpool but they aren't interested. We should always have a time limit as we are just screwing ourselves waiting for players to use us to get better deals elsewhere. Give them 48h to accept or reject a deal and then move on.
So he hasnt signed, entirely his right but as a club we now move on and hope in the future he reflects that maybe he got it wrong and we can do that on and off the pitch if indeed mirror story is correct
I suppose the fact he left Swans for Blues (Reds? Dragons?? Whatever!) makes some sort of statement. I can understand using us as a negitiatiating tool for more money - from a Championship side - but not going to Palace. That makes no sense at all.
Completely agree...and if players try and play the money game with us, and bleed us dry for all they can, we should tell them to piss off. You get the pride of pulling on the blue and white hoops, and a reasonably wage...if that isn't enough, you don't deserve the chance.
Completely agree with Flyer and Dave R regarding timeframe. Fed up with players using us as buffer to inflate their worth and attract the bigger teams. Seriously worrying right now. Generally upbeat about our beloved Rangers but there is only about five weeks to go and I don't want to see the usual tactic of approaching, getting turned down repeatedly, only to panic buy in the last week before the season. Fine for the odd player, even glamour signing if needs be but the newbies have, have, have to get time to feel like a team before Ince and the rest of Hull try to tear through us.
This really is the daftest thing being trotted out by numerous people on the message boards at the moment. You are still allowed to try and sign other players while we wait on his response you know. If in 2 weeks time we are still waiting for an answer but in that time we sign Lascelles from Forest or Cook from Bournemouth we can then turn round and say to him sorry mate you missed your chance deals off. If you take a step back and realise that footballers are real people with genuine interests to consider. For example where do I want to live for the next 4 or 5 years. Do I want to move my family and life around again. He may be thinking if I join QPR they might get relegated so i'll have to move my life and family all over again at the end of the season. Will also be thinking I've only got a short career and there's 7 weeks left of the transfer window lets wait a bit longer as I think I'm good enough to play for a club in the Champion League (Liverpool). If you say to a player with this much time in the window remaining right you've got 48 hours to make a massive life decision for you, your family and your finite career then obviously they are going to say no as it would piss him off to pressure him like that with this much time of pre-season and the window left. I don't understand why a player like Caulker should just jump at 48 hours notice and join us? I also don't know what there is to be gained by chucking this time limit of say 48 hours? A hard sell like that would only work if he was desperate. If we wait one week, two weeks or three weeks or right up to the 31st August and he decides to join us then great if in that time we haven't found a better alternative. BUT just because you are waiting for him to say yes it doesn't mean we cant try and sign anyone else. The smart thing to do is give him our best offer, give him the big sell then wait for his response. If he goes elsewhere then oh well we did our best and gave ourselves the best chance of getting him. But during the time we waited we've got on with trying to sign other players.
Of course 48 hours is extreme but there is no harm is asking for an answer within a timeframe to show sincerity rather than simply using us as a bartering chip. Yes, we can go 'shopping' elsewhere but we don't. Players know we place all our eggs in one basket and take advantage of that. In the meantime, any other targets are sewn up and we're left with mercenaries.
Some sense, to all the dreamers who think everyone supports QPR and should sign without a second thought.
Common sense prevails! Skybet have suspended betting on Caulker so it would appear that he is Palace bound
