The bonnies are probably alight now and as the sun sets the orange glowing in the darkening sky will be a fitting tribute to King Billy and his brave army.

    The Pope backs King Billy
William is celebrated to this day as a champion of Protestantism, but he was nonetheless backed by the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Alexander VIII. The Pope was part of a ‘Grand Alliance’ against Louis XIV’s warring in Europe and supported William’s reconquest of Ireland.

So ultimately we can blame the resulting bigotry on the French.

[h=1]Four 'led to safety' during north Belfast bonfire[/h] Four people, including an elderly man, have been led to safety by firefighters after a large bonfire began to affect the roofs of three houses in Belfast.
Four fire engines attended the fire at Hopewell Avenue, off the Cliftonville Road, on Friday night.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) dealt with a total of 160 emergency calls between 18:00 BST on Friday and 01:00 BST on Saturday.

They said 58 calls were related to bonfires.

Firefighers had to intervene in 28 of the bonfire call-outs, by either dampening down the flames or ensuring the safety of nearby people and property.
During the Hopewell Avenue bonfire, the NIFRS said: "Four main jets, two foam jets and two hose reel jets were deployed as three nearby roofs were being affected by the blaze."

Bonfires are traditionally lit in many areas on 11 July, known as the Eleventh Night, to mark the culmination of the marching season.
The NIFRS said the number of call-outs they received this year saw a "slight decrease" from the year before.

Jeez looking through this thread, these bonfire stacks are mental. I don't pretend to understand Ireland's problems living in the South East about an hour from London. But first question that comes to mind is why do these people build these huge bonfire stacks so close to their properties and what is the representation/meaning of them or a simple explanation to Dev's quoted marching season?

Anyhow the water cannon and peace bricks will be out for the next few days. Nothing like your car or house getting pelted with peace bricks

This is some serious s**t but do they not understand that they only harm themselves, because without getting into the politics along with the right and wrongs, ignorant people such as myself don't understand any of this crap...we just see them harming one another for a purpose that appears will never be resolved. Surely anyone with any decency of human intelligenence knows you don't build the worlds biggest stack of a bonfire next to people's property?

You are dealing with the dregs of society here, the absolute dregs. They are the British in Ireland.

    Thanks for that.
