I know that a few of you guys listen to Radio 5 Live and I wasn't sure if you already knew that the legendary match commentator, Mike Ingham, is hanging up his Microphone after the World Cup Final. This is really sad news as he was for me, one of the voices of football, during the 80s/90s with his stint on the old 'Sport on 2' radio programe, presented by him and other legends like Bryon Butler. His calmness, intelligence and professionalism will be much missed and 5Live will no doubt suffer as a result. He is the perfect anecdote to that loud mouthed opinionated fool that is Alan Green!

I gave up listening to 5Live a few years ago due to the poor radio reception but Mike Ingham was one of the reasons why I used to try and tune in and listen!

Good luck Mike in your retirement as your thoughts, insights and consumate skill as a football commentator will be sadly missed. <ok>

I believe his balls have dropped and he now talks with a more adult voice.

Great shame as he was one of the very best as you say JWM. Alan Green is a twerp and reflects the lowering standards generally. Quite like the Geordie guy but cannot remember his name now. Think his name is John ? He has had a higher profile in the last season or two and is the obvious successor as the main commentator.

Maybe you can help me out with something.

I'm trying to remember the name of the commentator who used to do Sport on 2 alongside Bryon Butler in the 80s! He was another great commentator with a distinctive voice but I just can't think of his name! He sadly died a few years ago!

At least Mike Ingham was live on the mic as the destiny of the Jules Rimet trophy was decided - pretty appropriate, really <ok>
