Not good enough. He might have been unlucky but he was still not set right and shuffling or whatever you might say

You need 100 for 1 from openers and he's not delivered... Again

Cook's battign is also having a negative impact on our bowling performance as well which is an issue. Because he's out of form we're going top heaving with the batsmen by playing 6 batsmen, Prior and Stokes with only 3 other seamers. Not having a great spin option doesn't help but if Cook was in form and the batters constantly posting 400 then we'd drop one of Balance/Ali and get Jordan in with Stokes to give us 5 decent bowling options.

Means Anderson and Broad wouldn't have to bowl 30 overs and end up bowling at 75mph against the tailenders.

Good analysis IBWT, we are in desperate need of a top quality spinner, Swanny is sorely missed!

what IBWT said i think... not enough bowling options.

bad pitch too so its really what does england do to put it in context. It sounded to me the test ... i dunno how to put it but regular 5 day no shock type game?... was always going to be a draw if the pitch was this way.

Two possible outcomes to this test. Draw or Indian win.

maybe so... There is the possibility always (though small) that england post a similar figure by say day 4 afternoon and india have a total mare with the bat and open the door.

england need to post 15-200/1 though IMO

Sam Sheringham, BBC Sport at Trent Bridge
"Under-fire local groundsman Steve Birks said he hoped this pitch would quicken up over the course of the Test but so far today it looks as sluggish as ever, with the ball rarely getting up to waist height. Precious little swing to report yet either. I bumped into Sunil Gavaskar in the hotel lift this morning and he was very scathing about the surface, describing the cricket we'd seen so far as 'pretty ordinary'."

    Eng 68-1 (partnership 59)
These youngsters may not be highlight-reel batsmen (though Ballance is capable of fireworks when he gets going) and you could hardly describe them as being aesthetically pleasing, but they have techniques that work them and they both seem to be temperamentally suited to Test cricket. Robson, crouched, shuffles when Shami gets leggy, clipping to the leg-side fence. Despite the overhead grey, it's still very, very good for batting.

basically... YAWN.. should be 200/1 if these kids take their time... which i fancy they will

England 127-1 at lunch - trail by 330
    Robson 59*, Ballance 59*

thats not bad. they've repaired cooks failure. If they kick on to 200 before a wicket falls england SHOULD take 400+ total into second innings

draw by the look of things

    Pitch is shocking!
    Slow and low...
We're not playing in Mumbai FFS!
We're at home, lets use home advantage and prepare strips that favour us!!

bell has gone now... collapse offically on.

very poor england... extremely poor..... actually right now all confidence and form looks shot doesn't it.... this pithc is a good un. if we engineer a humiliating defeat out of our couple of bolwers being killed to provide the extra batting then i'm afraid its clean sweep time and all critics of peitersen should be sacked and him begged to come back as captain.

    bell can't be captain surely?

bet swann would come back and all!
