I was reading an intersting piece in the Wall Street Journal over tea and scones this morning... Nah I wasnt it was champagne and quail eggs but I digress. How come everyone is calling Holland the Netherlands these days ... Ive seen pundits correct themselves numerous times when saying Holland and the match captions all say Netherlands. I remember euro 88 and italia 90 when Van basten , Gullit , Rijkaard all played with pride for HOLLAND
Holland is a region of the Netherlands. Just like when the Paddy's prefer to be called Irish and not West British, the non Holland residents prefer to be called Netherlandish. Comprende?
So the great side of 88 was only a region of the country they might could have won the tournament if they selected from the whole country the fools
No Stuart this thread is not really about Holland more a subtle way for me to let ye all know I was having champers and quail eggs for breakfast whilst being noshed off by a Taiwanese house boys mother.
The Cloggies themselves use the 2 interchangeably. When I was living out there, I found that I was more pedantic about it than they were.
Haha I lived in Formosa for a year, admittedly it had changed from Formosa when I was there, I lived in Taichung, which I think means west Taiwan or something, you ever been?
