To say Gerrard is in there, I really like the energy levels that that trio present. I can't see us giving teams too much time on the ball when Hendo and Lallana are playing
Dont think of it as replacing Gerrard. Think of it as doing a job in that position. If you expect them to be Gerrard your building them for a fall. Who ever it is should be allowed to adapt the role to themselves. Lucas is still at the club, and we have Can, Allen and Ilori. Ilori can pass it like Gerrard. -
hope not but the press itself will alos depend on sturridge who at times is really lazy. with suarez gone the front 3 also must press high.. sturridge can, sterlnig certianly can so we'll see. if can is subbed in for gerrard to ease him in that'll be good too. I do feel the system doesn't need to change par se. what i find gerrard has a problem with is moving, demanding the ball, going side to side, 10 years this way or that and demanding that ball and making the pass... often he'll be static beside some opponent and the cbs step out. ANYONE can cover in behind as a cb steps up but it takes a good attitude to demand that ball get on it and get it moving forward not just layoff backwards again. If can will be that positive the hollywood 60 yard pass switching play and set piece will just have to be dispensed with. I am hoping coutinho for the positive early passing forward, more into feet.
But in the simplistic world of football reporting and punditism, this will be seen - 1) Gerrard is dropped 2) Player x plays instead of Gerrard or plays in the DM role 3a) Player x plays well - move to step 4 3b) Player x plays badly - move to step 5 4) "Player x is the new Gerrard" 5 "Gerrard dropped for player x shower" Either way, whoever steps in will be seen as a Gerrard replacement - whether they play well or badly and regardless of the type of game they play.
well... yes and... maybe. I won't say no. I feel that nobody is really seeing gerrard as a DM so if someone comes in and replaces him for 50% of games in that role they may be just seen as the new lucas... i dunno. thats my thinking anyway. I think its more attacking midfield where the replace gerrard thing coems in but i'd have to say yes if someone take gerrard's slot even if its regista role then they will be compared to him at minimum. I'd rather be compared to a 34 year old gerrard as regista rather than a gerrard 2009 in an AM role. I think for england however the comment is very true. the press with be looking for next lampard, gerrard etc etc... and barkely is it.
at what price? In short no. i don't really like him but he is a different style player so thats in his favor. If he was 8mil hmmmmm but 20mil? f off. i'd rather spend 30 and get a top player.
No idea on price... agree, he's a different option to what we already have... did a good job in an average side...
To be honest, I wouldn't mind him as one of the options off the bench.. but agreed, not a first XI player
I think most people on here would be quite optimistic on those signings 12/24 months ago. Right now though, we have just finished a very successful campaign and are about to lose the most prolific striker in European leagues last year and arguably our only world class player. These names do not fill me with any confidence whatsoever. I really hope there are no basis to these rumours and the scouting team are secretly trying to unearth a gem in South America or some obscure talent somewhere. Obviously we may be priced out, and/or not attractive enough for the top strikers currently playing in Europe but surely with the expected Suarez money and the need to replace quality with quality we should be looking at better talent.
NO ONE WILL REPLACE SUAREZ first of all - we've now established this, surely Our centre halfs struggled with Bony last season He's a great header of the ball, probably the best in the league His scoring record is fantastic for a team further down the league (no offence Swans) and has been a fantastic signing for them Has 25 goals for Swansea in 48 games, 53 in 73 before that at Vitesse - good record Is very very strong
bony is very strong and a good header of the ball in the box. you wont get much better for the price...
But we play our football on the ground. We could do with more muscle but I'd prefer another flair plyer.
I have a question. A few months back every one really wanted us to sign Lovren and thought he was our ideal transfer target. But slowly over the summer every one has gone off him. People dont seem to just think he's to expensive, every one suddenly thinks he's not good enough at all. Is this the case? It just seems strange to me.
Was very impressed with this video I know its Youtube etc Just think ppl have been put off by his price + his antics
