I thought he was linked a while back so there may be something in it.

He seems more mobile and had a much better season IMO.

Cant see us getting Fonte.. Southampton have sold too many players already and there's news of L'pool getting Lovren too, no way will they sell Fonte. That would be 3 of their back 4 sold.

Presumably he'll want to go on a permanent, and seen as we've spent 7 million quid on Jake who plays in the same position, I imagine someone like Southampton will have a far better chance of getting him.

But can't he play defence as well as midfield? If so it would be good to have someone to adapt to different positions on the team

Rodwell would be a good buy, must be cheap as well since he's been bench warming for go knows how long.

I don't think he'll be cheap, but if we can get a loan with an option to buy, we'd have done very well.

    Not at all.

Correct. Well one of a few targets actually as has been reported.

Gambling debts to be settled maybe ? <whistle>

Dawson is about sorted but we now wait for Spurs as per Ellewoods post it would appear now.

The Daily Star need to have a word with Ronald Koeman first. Dont see Fonte leaving myself.

    More likely if Rodwell happens.

Okay Hat..Have it your way...I wonder why Spurs are willing to listen to offers for Dawson....Because he's too slow that's why!!!!!

Yes, too slow for the way new spurs boss Pocho sets his team up with the defensive line in the opponents half. Not for a team like ours.

If he was too slow, how has me made a career at a top 6 or 7 premier league club these past god knows how many years?

It's not that he's not good enough for spurs, he just doesn't suit the new system they'll be playing, that's why they're taking offers.

To say he's only championship quality is just absurd.

why you think dawson was chosen as ferdidands replacement in the world cup 2010?

you don't make over 200 appearances for spurs and be their captain for 4 years and winning player of the season awards and be too slow or not good enough, he's a fantastic defender and for us, a ****ing marvelous signing, he really is a good centre half

what sort of assessment is that?

Dawson would be an ace signing - better than Lescott IMHO.

Whilst not wishing to prolong the debate....Spurs were willing to offload Dawson to QPR when they were dumped back into the Championship....Fees were agreed, but Dawson turned it down as he was prepared to sit on the bench....Don't get me wrong, decent player but injuries have taken a couple of yards of pace off him. Working with a Spurs season ticket holder as I do, I think his assessment of Dawson is one I am prepared to believe.
Indeed watching him at KC last season only confirmed my workmates assessment. But eh that's my opinion, yours is yours.

Dawson did ankle ligaments about two years ago, he was never quick but it did however slow him a bit more, he is still a top defender and as long as he's alongside Davies and Chester in a back three he should be fine, we have never defended with a high line anyhow... ...apart from against Newcastle!

Nick Powell on loan according to HDM. Seems to have some truth in it as we were after him last season too.

He was not prepared to sit on the bench as you say, rather he was prepared to fight for his place. Which one did he end up doing?

If Bruce plans to play Dawson in a back 3 with Chester & Davies who are no slouches, he'll be fine, even in a back 4, say Dawson & Davies, one stopper (Dawson) the other to cover.. his lack of pace shouldnt be a problem if he reads the game well.
