Mutch probably doesnt have a relegation clause in his contract as we bought him from Birmingham about 2 1/2 years ago. I would have thought the club will accept £4m with add ons and a big sell on clause.

Really can't see that for a player with one Prem season from which he was relegated .......... if I recall he went to Cardiff because Malky Mackay was there and, having played in the PL, won't want to be playing against Brentford. A total of £3 million is about what he's worth with only 1 year's contract left imo.

Cardiff City insist Sunderland's £3.5m valuation of midfield star Jordon Mutch is 'well short' of the £5m bid they would consider.

Black Cats boss Gus Poyet is keen on the Bluebird but hasn't yet made his latest bid, reported at £3.5m, official.

The Bluebirds insist though that it is will take an offer of £5m or more to tempt them into taking note.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the former Birmingham man to stay at Cardiff and Sunderland’s latest offer, expected in the coming days, won’t change his mind.

Discuss is with us on Cardiff City Online Facebook & Cardiff City Online Twitter

Mutch, 22, was among Cardiff’s leading lights in the Premier League last season and has a major role in Soslkjaer’s plans to take City back up at the first attempt.

Derby-born Mutch has one year left on his contract, but Solskjaer will offer him a new deal and sources in Cardiff insist Sunderland are still to register a firm offer.

He was Cardiff’s top Premier League scorer in 2013/14 with seven goals and was outstanding in both matches against Sunderland, scoring in the 2-2 draw in South Wales.

Solskjaer is already resigned to losing Fraizer Campbell to Leicester City or Crystal Palace, who have both triggered an £800,000 plus add ons release clause in his contract, plus Gary Medel and Steven Caulker, but he is intent on keeping Mutch and goalkeeper David Marshall.

If this is the the case surely there's a deal to be done.

SUNDERLAND are yet to make an improved bid for midfield target Jordon Mutch, according to Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Echo revealed last week how Sunderland had seen a £3.5million offer rejected by the Bluebirds for Mutch, with Cardiff holding out for a £5m fee for the 22-year-old.

The Black Cats have been contemplating whether to meet that asking price – thought to trigger a buy-out clause in Mutch’s contract – or bide their time for the England Under-21 international, who netted seven times for the Bluebirds last season.

But Solskjaer claims there have been no “new” bids for any members of the Cardiff squad, with several players in demand after their relegation from the top flight.

“We are the team who seem to attract most speculation. It happens every day, but we are used to it,” said Solskjaer.

“There have been no new bids that I know of, although I am not the person who negotiates.

“The speculation doesn’t get to me – it’s part of the job.”

Mutch didn’t feature in Cardiff’s opening pre-season friendly against Carmarthen Town on Tuesday night, along with 10 other members of the first-team squad – including the likes of Steven Caulker and former Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell, who are both expected to leave the club this summer.

But Solskjaer claims those players were doing extra training sessions and several could feature in this weekend’s clash with Bath City.

He added: “We decided to have 22 players against Carmarthen and give everybody 45 minutes.

“Some of those who weren’t involved against Carmarthen will play at Bath City on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s World Cup midfielder Michel Babatunde claims Sunderland are one of several Premier League clubs looking to sign him.

Babatunde made two appearances for his country at the World Cup before breaking his wrist in Nigeria’s final group game against Argentina.

The 21-year-old says his agent has subsequently been contacted by Sunderland, along with German side Schalke and several clubs in Turkey, and expects to leave Ukraine outfit Volyn Lutsk this summer.

“I have received an offer from several clubs, but the one from Sunderland is the one that interests me,” Babatunde said.

“They have contacted my agent and we will see how it goes from there.

“There are about two offers from clubs in Turkey as well, which are both under consideration and will be discussed at the right time.

“I’m probably going to leave Volyn. We have to discuss the offers on ground but, most likely, I will be leaving this summer.”

I know we, as supporters, want signings but I'm glad the club are becoming smart.

We've panicked so many times, over the likes of Graham, and paid more than we needed to.

Saving a million with 3 different signings adds up to another player or the ability to pay the right wages for Wickham or whoever.

I'm sick to death of SAFC blundering around in the transfer market and it's time our millions were better spent.

I'd rather we started the season as we are than blow our budget on plodders who see the place as a rest home.
