wouldn't surprise me in the least, there's something very odd about how the Mercedes seem to be consistently 0.5-0.8 seconds faster in qualifying, then magically 2 seconds a lap faster during the race, at completely random times. Makes it hard to figure out what the hell is going on, especially when trying to compare the pace of their 2 drivers, which also seems to fluctuate by more than a second.

Again something which so obviously should of been better regulated when introduced, i mean why be so anal about the amount of fuel, fuel-flow-rates and all that and then seemingly over look possible advantages in the hybrid part of the engine? It really looks like they were crying out for someone to make the most of these rule changes and put an end to Red Bulls dominance, and are now regretting the actual outcome even more.

Also having the lowest British GP viewer figures since 2006 probably hasn't encouraged them to give the grid time to even out with this set of rules.

I think it's more of a case of they were hoping that by half way through the season things would have started to level out... and given how long RBR have been on top, the last thing they need is another team doing similar things.

I think the last thing they wanted was the Merc coming out of the gates so far ahead of the others. Merc could potentially be about to pay the price for doing a better job.

Lets see what comes, see what effect it has and figure it from there. It could backfire on them if it somehow propels RBR to a dominant lead again. :p

I think the main team that will benefit is Ferrari, they seem rather reluctant to embrace the more innovative and modern technologies, hence why their car appears to handle like ****, now all the cars will.

So is FIA prepared to ban every innovation that makes the cars go faster and stick better to the track? All or almost all the cars seem to be using some form of FRIC system, so why is it a problem, because some have perfected it quicker than others?

pretty much, they did the same with blown exhaust remember, and then went back and redesigned the whole exhaust system when the change originally had little effect on the Red Bulls dominance. As i've said it's born out of poorly implementing rule changes, and not bring smart enough to see which of the poorly thought out ones teams will exploit, even when it gets to the point where it's clear they're putting huge amounts of resources into developing those areas.

So what would happen should they make the change and Mercedes are still miles ahead...? They better start thinking quickly.

The Mercs will have to carry bags of cement around in the cockpit, and have tyres made of mashed up Wellington boots.

personally i think it's because they realise they can ban FRICS now and the Mercedes will still be ahead. But the current 2 seconds + a lap faster than everyone else is just stupid, and not exactly enjoyable to watch unless you're a Hamilton fan. The viewer numbers would of plummeted for the rest of the season if they hadn't at least said they were going to do something.

I am honestly enjoying this season much more than last year because we are having a intense 2 way battle for the title.

Would you be saying the same if it was Vettel vs Ricciardo instead?

I would have been rooting for Ricciardo much more strongly if it was an RBR battle personally, but at least it's close this year, unlike Vettel crushing Webber

SO what if you are Rosberg fan? Also you said "the current 2 seconds + a lap faster than everyone else is just stupid." Was stupid the right choice of a word? It certainly isn't stupid that Mercedes did their homework and did a better and more complete job than the others. If you said it isn't good for the sport I could understand that and even agree with you, but to say it is stupid? NO!

yes it's stupid because their advantage is born out of poorly designed and implemented rule changes. Literally every rule change for this year has either favoured Mercedes or negatively effected their rivals, this was always going to be the result.

I totally get that they want closer racing between the top teams, we all do. It's much more exciting when the wins are spread about and there's a title battle with multiple contenders from different teams, but it seems they're looking to find an excuse to rein in the Merc. If there's a genuine reason to restrict certain aspects of the Merc, then so be it, but I really hope it's not an attempt to manipulate the current pecking order.

It'll be interesting to see how the next couple of weeks pan out though.

The thing is Sgt..they might ban the system, Mercedes complies, and Mercedes might still be miles ahead...then what? Give them a five place grid penalty for every race to even the playing field? In fact Hamilton started 6th and if he was going full throttle might have lapped the whole field. So maybe a 10 place grid penalty...lol

are you suggesting they just do nothing and just watch the number of viewers plummet? despite being a sport, F1 still has to be entertaining and appealing to a wider audience than just fans of one or two drivers, otherwise people will just choose to watch something else, or do something else, as they apparently did at the last one

I don't think The Lewis Hamilton Show on Sky has helped matters tbh, or that the cars are looking and sounding worse than ever.

It's the FIA. Your guess is as good as mine.

The sensible thing would be to just open up engine development you'd think.
