Its always been a massive weakness for Froome, he's a talented cyclist but he has such poor control of the bike, Team Sky did a good job of working on it with him but it looks like all his old habits have come back for this tour.
Yesterday's accident was hardly his fault though. He's a brave guy and looked in a lot of pain, bad luck Froomey He'll win it again.
Carnage out there. Organisers may have dropped a bollock with this stage. You surely want your GC contenders safely making it to the mountains.
Yikes. Only 4 British riders in the tour and already down by 50% on day 5, one of them the defending champ. Should have stayed in Yorkshire maybe.
It's criminal that Wiggins didn't start this Tour. I bet he's laughing his tits off somewhere and rightly so.
Was always going to be high risk imo, even in good weather. The cobbles cause fatigue and that leads to more crashes. I'm usually all for mixing up the flat stages in the first week, but this is a killer. Enjoying it though.
Lars Boom wins; Nibali still in Yellow and now pretty well left Contador (at two and a half mins behind him).
Yep but maybe that's a one day classic for a reason. Mind, it is good to give the real strong men a chance to shine.
Absolute shambles. The planners have dropped a clanger and blown it open. The sponsors won't be happy.
I don't reckon they have. Time trials favour TT-ists; mountains favour climbers; flat stages favour bunch finishes and the sprinters. Today's stage favoured strong men, as hhh says above. Cav went out on Stage 1; Froome was really taken out on yesterday's stage
Whatever your thoughts, it's been smashed wide open. So who's going to finish in the maillot jaune now? Can Nibali do it? Anyone but that sour faced Contador for me. Does he ever crack a smile.
