It's actually been proven to be cheaper and better to increase a player's wages who's important than sell and replace him. The risk is far greater replacing as say if we increase Davies' wages by 20k a week, that's a 1m outlay for the year to keep someone important. Are you really telling me that we can find someone for 1m who's as good or better than Davies was. it's fair enough dealing with egos but at the end of the day if you want Premier league players you've got to pay premier league wages
Would the renegotiation involve an extension to his contact as well? If it does then also might pay off in the long run.
That's a very dodgy way of looking at it. Not taking into account whatever fee/profit we might make from the sale and whatever wage he's already on. If we sold him for £12m, yes we could definitely get better.
But you obviously have that risk of not being able to sign someone good enough combined with what I imagine will be a wage similar to what Davies will want. Increasing Davies' wage is the best thing the club can do this summer after bringing in new players. It's cheaper, he's proven and providing he can maintain his standard he's our best player and therefore our most valuable
I would rather rerun his contract down for 2 years and leave for nothing then sell him now for less then 8 million
Fully deserves to be on or around the same pay as the top earners at this club. Without a doubt his performances have been fundamental in putting us in a position where we have been able to bring in these new faces on the higher wages for a second PL season. A true captain who galvanises the team and a bloke who is a thoroughly decent professional as well both on and off the pitch.. The team should be built around him and I for one hope he is at our club for many years to come.
I'd tell him January. Too often does a player have a splendid single season then resume full ****ness forever after. Give him an incentive to keep his performance levels as high as Keith Richards.
