this German team has more superstars than the rest of the Countries.

    Neuer - best GK
    Lahm - best FB
    Hummel - class CB
Kadeira/Schweignsteiger would walk into any team in a DM position
    Muller - world class attacker

And a few others as well.

You're entitled to your opinion, MITO. We're not a great team, but muck? Not for me.

There's degrees of muck... England can qualify ok but once there they are muck and frankly hodgson boasted about pub teams and getting them to defend... Well England are a pub team and hodgson is a complete numpty

Just because England beat San Marino to qualify doesn't mean they are any good! 1 point against in a weak group that Costa Rica topped says it all.

England have good players there is no questioning that. Most of the squad either played in the CL or in a title challenge last year in a competitive league. Compare that to half the Uruguay, Colombia, Costa Rica squad and you can clearly tell on paper, we have the better players.

So then it comes down to how the perform and 3 things spring to mind.

1, the wrong tem is picked. Maybe players are being picked on names and not to suit a formation or compliment each other

2, the manager playing the wrong style. Maybe the manager is picking a style of football none of the team play for their Country. Most of the German team play for Bayern and their style compliments the style Germany are trying to play. Same with Spain (before this disastrous WV).

3, Players just don't care. Touchy one as it's hard to judge, but as a nation we certainly aren't as patriotic as other Countries. See how the American's got behind their players, even Bluff was cheering on Howard even though he plays for Everton. Most of us still put club rivalries ahead of the Nation and would rather see a player from Liverpool team do well compared to the England team (people cheering on Suarez against England) or don't mind if England lose as long as Sturridge/Hendo play well etc.

How do we cure it? well, the first 2 you could say we need a dynamic manager who isn't going to be a yes man and be a safe bet. Take a risk on someone, heck they can't do any worse than the previous 10 managers. Someone who can get the best out of players they are given and able to coach them into a team of players rather than collection of individuals.

The 3rd, well, not sure how you cure that to be honest. Think we're become so used to cheerig on our own teams and used to England failing that we've become glory hunters and don't care about England because they have been pretty dire.

exactly. I think Germany could beat us 7-1 (they weren't that far off it in SA) but Brazil? Nah. They'd beat us, possibly by two or three goals. But not 7-1. No.

I do think we'd score two or three against that defence though. Even Rooney wouldn't need a tap-in.

Yeah agreed but what I mean, ask a football fan to name 5 football superstars and none of those would be in it. They are not flash or headline grabbers. They are a team in every sense of the word.
Have to admit though that muller is a much better player than I realised..well in this World Cup he is.

See comment above. Until he came on as sub and scored in one of the group games I thought he had retired. Very under rated striker outside of Germany .

Totally agree. Klose is a superb goalscorer in the mould of Lineker - I don't think either have scored many from outside the box.

Also think that, with his fitness and age, Muller might surpass even Klose. He's on 10 goals (6 assists!) in 12 WC games, compared to 16 in 23 for Klose. Arguably, at 24, Muller could go to another 2 (perhaps even 3?) WCs.

basically this is along the lines of my opinion.. Hoever i do feel its not just this manager though a good portion of problems that reduced a QF team to a group phase also ran. I believe point one is a long established routine with england where flavor of the month and players not bothered to turn up creates a scenario where I could not predict form the first euro's competitive qualifying squad who will turn in for the finals. For at least half the top sides and a lot of the lesser sides I'd say you could name 15 out of the 23 without difficulty and the majority of their first 11s.

This issue in turns leads on to point 3. I firmly believe that if you want a well organised unit you need team spirit and beeleif and for me it was patently obvious englands cbs didn't trust englands CMs and vice versa and elave out bias one way or the other thats obvisouly an issue. If you've got 15 lads you can rely on they make a better team.

Finally the manager not only didn't pick the right formation and style (which is basic) but he failed to prepare for the 3 games he had as patently in the first game he'd no plan to deal with pirlo bar dropping sterling in and when he did pirlo merely moved into a more advanced gap and killed england. everyone else marked him out of games so italy went home early. Also failed to prepare for uraguay and failed to change it mid game to secure the win... and then cost a rica we'll never know cos he played a scratch team.

hodgosn is an abysmal manager england fans will have to endure for 2 more years... and in the next finals in 2016 there'll be a group where 3 european teams will prepare to play england and will simply negative the one or two players needing attention and england will go home with at best 3 draws... AGAIN. thansk FA. thanks a bunch.

Well, I thoguht Germany would win, but not by that much. Neitehr did anyone else. People here are more in shock than properly happy.

Silva was badly missed, but I don't think it would have changed the result. Can't believe how poor just about everyone in the Brazil team was, and whoever thought leaving space at the back was a good idea against Germany... About the only players who really emerged with any credit were Cesar, who despite conceding seven goals couldn't really have done too much more, and Willian, who at least managed to do something once he came on. Oscar also started playing after about 80 minutes when it was far too late. Everyone else had a nightmare, even usually solid players like Fernandinho.

Credit to Germany. They were solid at the back - Hummels again looked imperious, and Neuer did everything asked of him. They dominated the midfield, especially in the first half, and were ruthlessly efficient going forward. Congraulations to Klose, a very underated player, even in Germany, partly because he isn't flashy and doesn't seek attention. To dismiss him as a poacher does him a disservice; his movement and ability to draw players out of position, is also a key asset - see the poor marking for the first goal as an example. Pirlo (rightly) gets credit for still being so good at his age, yet Klose doesn't. But its Klose who'll be in the final.

I'm just not sure I'll be able to take it if Germany win the thing...

Didn't think he was carp, but he wasn't as visible as the others. And his 1 on 1 shooting hasn't improved.
