There is news in the Italian press today that Newcastle are ready to make an offer for Juventus right-back Mauricio Isla.

26 year-old Isla was born in Buin, Chile and joined Juventus two years ago after playing for five years at Udinese, and he was Chile’s right back in the World Cup, when they were unlucky to go out on penalties to the home nation Brazil in the round of the last 16.

It seems Newcastle have been watching him in Brazil, and must have been impressed with what they saw, because the news in Tuttosport is that Newcastle will make a bid of around £5M for the defender.

Isla is a versatile player and like many full backs these days he is also more than useful playing out on the right wing, but he can also play in central midfield and as a center-back.

Bu at 5’9″ tall he could be too short to play in central defense, but nevertheless he can play in multiple positions and that would be a positive for Newcastle.

In his two seasons at Juventus he has played 41 times for the Italian giants, and it would seem he could be a decent buy for Newcastle.

Newcastle were supposed to have agreed a deal for Feyenoord right back and Dutch International Daryl Janmaat, and that was also according to the Italian press – so it’s really hard to know what the truth is.

But this lad looks like a good player, and he’s played 47 times for Chile, since making his debut as a 19 year-old against Switzerland in September of 2007.

I'd welcome this lad. The old lady or us though? Hmmmm. It does appear he is reserve choice there though. Him or Janmaat would be good.

I'd Trippier or Richards though to get some English players into our starting eleven.

He's Chilean. Woops. I'll not edit the previous comment because it amused me.

Its not as if there is a picture of him in a Chile strip or a mention in the arcticle.
