Negotiations are continuing between Liverpool and Barcelona over the transfer of Luis Suarez.

Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague expects the deal to be completed in the next few days.

Barca are reportedly willing to pay £75m for the controversial Uruguay striker, who is currently serving a four-month ban following his latest biting incident during the World Cup.

In Barcelona ‘Suarez 9’ shirts have already gone on sale in sports shop Futbol Mania. Liverpool and Arsenal target Alexis Sanchez currently wears the number nine shirt.

Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague expects the Luis Suarez deal to be completed in the next few days.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Balague said: "It's quite clear that Barcelona and Luis Suarez are on the same wavelength.

"Liverpool have given up on him and the figure that Barcelona need to pay has been reported at round £70m to £80m. In any case, that is as much as Liverpool wanted.

"There seems to be an early payment of 40m euros which Barcelona is waiting for the sale of Alexis Sanchez to be able to say 'here is the money'.

"But, in any case, it is going to happen and Luis Saurez's family expects it to be confirmed by the end of this week."

The point is if they are using the disctinction between cash/installments to justify ignoring an agreement <ok>

Plus, more generally, if we have a boatload of cash in hand it means our deals don't have to drag on with payment time negotiations

The same doesn't apply to UK buys. I'm fairly certain that all of the fee has to be paid within 12 months.

However, you're somewhat missing the point. The structure of the fee is forming part of an ongoing negotiation between LFC and Barca. They're not activating a buyout clause here, as if they were there'd be no negotiation, it'd be a 'hostile' purchase and they'd have to stump up the cash to activate the clause.

The mere fact that you met with them for discussions meant that you were prepared to sell, once the willingness to sell is established it's then just down to agreeing the fee and the payment schedule.

So? My point was the payment schedule should be as much up front as possible if not all. Cash in the bank makes things easier for us negotiating our other deals.

The buyer isn't going to give you it, as they simply haven't got it.

So you're going to accept something less than it all up front, as you now patently want to sell and they're the only bidder, as the player obviously has made it plain they're his choice.

We want to sell- but not at any price. We have no reason to sell him on the cheap or for conditions that won't work for us. His contract isn't expiring, he isn't demanding a transfer or go on strike, etc.

Yes, we want to sell him, but we're not going to make it easy on the buyer... we will strive to get what he's worth.

Until recently Real were interested too... despite the bite... give it till January if Barcelona aren't making a reasonable offer.

Not in public, but you're naïve if you think he's not made his wishes clearly known privately.

It's just a negotiation, same as any other, only this one is for a huge fee, so will take longer to conclude the detail.

Same as every other negotiation a compromise will be reached.

precisely. far too many lfc fans seem to have not paid attention to the bale move and seem very impatient for something to happen.

it'll happen when it happens. right now everyone is onboard and nobodys going to spit a dummy when he can't even play.

There's not many Liverpool fans, if any, complaining that nothing is happening or that we are taking too long to close the deal from what I've seen.

Most Liverpool fans are really calm about the transfer because we've all known he would eventually leave and we know we'll be getting a lot of money for him.

Yeah.
And Tobes, amongst others, said we had to let him go or we'd have a useless stroppy get on our hands.
Look how that turned out.:)

Think he might be on safer ground this time around, though.

Not the same scenario, as he was spouting off in they press about wanting to leave but there was no offer on the table.

When it arrived you refused to even speak to Arsenal.

This time you've entered negotiations with Barca and he's patently told you he wants the move.

Amazing how a £100k per week pay rise can cheer up a stroppy footballer mate

Oh bugger. I was just thinking of a joke about stripey footballers and you edited it.

A pay rise of that magnitude would cheer me up no end, but I honestly think Suarez loves playing and can only play one way.
You're right in that last season we had no intention of parting with him whereas this time we want to.
I still don't think we're so desperate that we'll offload him on the cheap just to get rid.
Barca are tricky bastards though.
