I am all for equality - but it cuts both ways - equal pay must be for equal work. Three sets does not equal five sets - and how does 6-3, 6-0 (15 games) come near to matching 6-7,6-4,7-6,5-7,6-4 (59 games). Perhaps to give women equal rights they should pay both men and women per set or per game won with equal pay per set or per game !!!!

With the inequality in the amount of tennis played, the only fair way of pay equality should be NOT to separate the two sexes, men and women play for one trophy, against whoever they draw be it man v man, woman v woman or man v woman!

Next you'll be saying Charlotte Edwards should captain and open the batting for England in the Test tomorrow in place of Alastair Cook, although at the moment...

It was maybe a bit tongue in cheek but scrupulously fair!

A shame to see Chris Froome out of the tour after two crashes today.
I have lost my interest in the tour this year now.

Yes - sorry to see Froome out - his bottom looked rather tender after his crash yesterday though - still a good race though - sometimes it is better when you don't have to worry babout "home" teams or players - I certainly enjoyed the World Cup post England's exit

I sot of wonder if he thought was it worth the hassle of being near the back as defending champion having suffered some injuries in recent weeks.

Better to let Froome rest and be ok for the rest of the season.

While not an avid fan of racing I have enjoyed a few trips to courses - so long as you are placing bets it is surprising to see how animated you can suddenly feel.

When we were taught statistics at A Level we had a "green" graduate teacher. He got us to form a syndicate to study the odds etc on horses and agreed to actually place the bets for us. We had great fun and although I am not sure how much it did help our Stats we enjoyed it - I suspect today he would be sacked for it :)

Not up here - that's exactly the sort of thing teachers are encouraged to do...

I do not quite understand this. There is a road rally - a timed event - that takes place and goes past our farm annually. The roads are not closed so there is always a chance of meeting traffic coming the other way as well as coming up behind someone. However as we often only see one or two cars come up our valley all day I guess that as this is a midnight rally it is likely to be safe. It is fascinating to see the car headlights shooting up into hte sky as they come up and down the hills in thge neighbouring valleys.

Like you though Dan I am not sure how that proposal could work. There is enough fuss when they close roads for cycling events (although not I think for the Tour de France)

We did have some rally cars come past our village several years, and the roads were closed. Cycle races have an army of marshals who allow cars through if they are going in the same direction as the race, but before the riders come through. After they have passed you will have to wait for ten minutes or so before you are allowed to follow. Going to the bottle bank one day, normally about 10 mins there and back, I was shunted into a field and had to wait for 40 mins. Still the field was next to the bar where I waited for the all clear. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I wonder if something similar with a seagull has happened at the racecourse here.

With regards to the motorsport on roads, for once the mainland has finally caught up with C.I. AND IoM. The TT has been going for over 50 years (I think) and Jersey and Guernsey both have an annual rally plus hill climbs and other events.

James Anderson and Joe Root have added 164 for the 10th wicket, the biggest last-pair stand in Test history
