It was still a shock to me to see that a truly great player has died .You hear a lot of talk at people being legends believe me this on was the tops along with Pele Maradona and Charles that's how much I rated him.
It was interesting to read that Barcelona had thought they had signed him only to be thwarted by Real Madrid and their greatest supporter FRANCO who used his influence to get his man to Madrid and what a signing he proved to be!
Under his striking power in which he score d in every final in 5 seasons Madrid became the first real super power in world football the Beckhams of this world may have earned vast monies out of the game but they couldn't lace this mans boots.
The world will surely miss this great man

I was too young to appreciate him, I don't get to say that often. Watching the clips of him, it was just like watching Leeds United(I know Don was inspired by Real's white kit)<ok>

I should have said, the quality of Real Madrid's team playing in white, inspired Don's decision to change our strip. Is that better Leeds60.........<doh>

Great post ... Di Stefano was a true great ... his influence ran deep, with people like Jock Stein and Alex Ferguson quoting him as a major influence and inspiration as both a player and a manager ... RIP

And not one dive or a moment's cheating in his career. A true gentleman & sportsman. Fantastic player & manager. Very few can claim a combination of these attributes in the modern game.

Diving and cheating hadn't been invented then. If you fell over, it was likely as a result of at least one broken leg <ok>

I don't think any modern player holds a candle to the great Alfredo,or Don Alfredo,as he is affectionately referred to.

When it comes to great players,I rate him alongside John Charles.

In fact,if the word "great" is used to describe the modern day heroes who dive, spit, harangue officials, and generally cheat at every opportunity, then we need a new word to describe Di Stefano and Charles.

    I'm working on it. <peacedove>
