not too worried yet , worst case scenario at the end of next season we should get most of what was paid for any players we got so far - waaay different to Bullard Gardner and what proved to be with Hunt to a lesser extent
I appreciate your clubs position on a salary cap I do. I would worry though that putting a 30k a week limit is artificially reducing the quality of players that you can attract. All the cash flowing into teams with the tv money is causing costs to go up, while you seem to be playing by an older model (a more financially stable model though). I actually think you will probably stay up so getting as many quality players this year as possible would set yourselves up nicely to avoid the 2nd year drop. You should be looking long term, after all your goal has been to become a mainstay in the PL, seems strange that you would be playing conservatively almost planning on being relegated.
Not too worried at the moment as i see this squad knocking on the door of a top 10 finish. Also, with the money being spent on young(ish) players like Snodgrass/ince/Livermore I think this could be the last big summer spree we have for the next 3/4 years. We're looking to build a squad thats going to stay in the division for the next 5 years I feel with no heavy investment, so we're able to keep most of the profits of the premier league and still be in a good starting place for each campaign. That being said, it could all backfire in a cloud of disappointment, but I trust Brucey and watching the ability of some of the players last year, i'm fairly calm about the situation, and excited!
You know from Nigel's time at Hull he only signs the types of players that fit into the team mentality If we offering players 40K+ a week like Sven was you get quality players like Yakubu, but they come here purely for the money and they don't give a **** Steve Walsh has found us some quality players from abroad that cost next to nothing compared to signing players from this country. Imagine how much Villa would have wanted for Marc Albrighton if he was still under contract there. Its a transfer tactic that has different types of risks to yours but its how football clubs should be run, and thats what FFP is trying to do. Im not having a go at one club just football as a whole is wrong. Its up to the clubs to stop offering stupid wages because players will always take as much as they can just like any person does in any walk of life Worst case senarios happens and say both our clubs get relegated, we have a solid structure that will help us adapt back into the championship while you will have to cut the wage bill massively. Or continue to put it through the roof like a certain team did recently
I think you're massively underestimating how much 30k per week is. It's the average amount for the PL and is 5 times the average of The Championship. There is quality out there for that amount, without a doubt.
I'm worried that we haven't made a signing yet. We start training soon and i'd like to get our dealings done and dusted. I'm not worried that we won't make them though.
A bigger wage budgets attracts bigger names without doubt, but it doesn't necessarily attract better players Good players can be found for any price and wages will always vary
1. We have signed 3 players and as we all said last year it was more about getting the players we currently had on new deals which baring Dyer we have got everyone on new contracts 2. We started pre season training today 3. Players only just returned off holiday in the last week and due to the world cup the transfer market will take a bit longer to really get going
Back to Ince - I've said already that I don't like the way he's gone about things, and I stand by that. That said, he's clearly got massive potential, and if we can help him to fulfil it and then him move on to a bigger club then that would be fine by me as we'd have had a good stint off him, and whilst he's a Hull City player he'll have my full support. If we get a left back and centre half, and possibly another striker (though it's not a massive concern of mine) then I think that'll be us done for the summer.
I reckon Bruce might see one of brady/aluko as a 3rd choice striker with the way we've signed a few wide players. Best thing i've heard about Ince signing for us instead of abroad (although they probably weren't even in for him) has to be this one from facebook
We wouldn't have got Tom, Jake or Greegsy on that, and Curtis probably wouldn't extend at it either. Averages include squad players but most clubs pay much more than that for their "big" players.
I have to say I wasn't fused either way we signed him or not, but now he has, and listening to his interview, he sound a well grounded kid. Hopefully will develop and become a great player for us.
Yeah the best thing about Brady is that he is great in any position on the left and even centrally going forward, I hope we continue to develop him as he is one of our brightest prospects
@FootballFunnys 20m Tom Ince rejects Monaco & Inter Milan to sign for Hull City... He now faces a medical where they'll be checking his head. Curtis just retweeted this ^^
