I think teams rarely scout players at the world cup because you can't judge a player on just a few games, plus you'll have the 'good performance' inflation. I presume we looked at Origi long before the tournament and to agree a fee £6m is great business. Origi and Can have great potential, and Markovic is someone who can go onto become world class.
thats aspas money... pocket change.. for a kid who's on a par with the great lukaku.. I wonder if he falls over the ball as much as the great man though?
Liverpool are understood to have agreed an initial £6million fee with Lille for Belgium World Cup striker Divock Origi. The Reds have been chasing Origi for weeks and the fee could rise to £9.5million for add-ons. Lille were persuaded to part with the talented teenager when Liverpool agreed to loan him back next season as a condition of his transfer. Liverpool are now due to begin contract talks with Origi before he has a medical to seal his move. Origi will be Liverpool's fourth summer signing and boss Brendan Rodgers is far from finished as he closes in on Benfica's Lazar Markovic. Liverpool are close to agreeing a fee with Benfica and talks with the Serbian winger have also gone well. copy and paste from lfc website link to mirror newsrag. 6mil for a forward is as cheap as chips and the gamble of 3.5 in add ons need not ever come to pass in theory if he doesn't work hard and push on. 6mil for a 20mil potential is good business. unlike apsaps who was 7mil for a 3mil player....at best
Thanks! Regarding the bit in bold, that's probably partly true, but I would guess that some of them would be related to how well Liverpool do rather than him personally, so maybe some of that will be due without him working hard and pushing on. But obviously we have no way of knowing.
I agree, I put the in theory part in as I don't know what add ons but for a young player i can't imagine winning titles or getting CL would be a clause but you never know. Aquilani had add ons that were triggers no matter how bad he was or we were but he was a 20mil big buy at the time. I'd expect it to be appearances for LFC or belgium type of thing. who knows. I could imagine soemthing about goals or appearances etc.
What does every one think of this team? ------------Mignolet---------- Flanagan-Skrtel-Sakho-Enrique ------------Gerrard----------- ---Henderson-----Lallana----- Markovic---Sturridge---Sterling I expect defensive changes but nothing has happened or looks close yet.
MEH... bascially thats what i'd think IMO though coutinho has a big big role to play this year and its crucial to us he steps up to it. I do agree that midfield is likely to be the one but i think one of sterling/markovic will start not both.. at least to begin with and coutinho needs to step up. Moreno will improve this but lovern will not again IMO. ideally... ignoring fees and personal rifts ------------Reina---------- Flanagan-Skrtel-Sakho-Moreno ------------Can----------- ---Henderson-----Lallana----- ---------Coutinho--- ----Sturridge---Markovic I'm more of a fan of the diamond than the 4-3-3 at times. I can see a case from many different systems but i feel as soon as suarez goes then the moreno bid will be completed as will markovic Finally we all must accept that LFc have been turned down by more players and we must continue the young player route. Sanchez for 34mil is virtually twice his pre world cup price and its like arsenal paying barca to take suarez. Shaqiri seems to be a dead link and the kid seems to desire to take ribery place for bayern. We cannot get mad about this just keep building on where we are at. 2nd was a great bonus and puts us further along the road but we are NOt near the end of the road where we can pick a player and get them despite competition. Oh and konoplyanka must be pretty sick now he's sitting in a war zone with nobody bidding on him now.
My mate has informed me that Markovic is 50% owned by his agent, so this may create difficulties - Tevez et al
I thought Coutinho looked better his first season with us than his second. Maybe I just expected more from him after his brilliant start. He was very hit-or-miss last season... I'd like to see more consistency out of him. Is Rodgers prepared to not give Gerrard an automatic starting role? If Can is better in the holding role than Gerrard, I really hope he is brave enough to make that call. (and I hope Gerrard is man enough to sit on the bench without wimpering). We're back on Coutinho again with that XI... personally, based on last season, if I had to pick one; Sterling or Coutinho... I'd start with Sterling. (never thought I'd say that 12 months ago). I rank Coutinho highly... but he has to get back on track again this season! If he's not good enough for us NOW- I'm glad we didn't sign him in January... Although... who knows, could he have been the difference between 2nd and 1st last season? (I suppose potentially we could have done worse) Is Makovich a strinker or a winger?
Sorry... too much time around Gonzo on here... I was writing in Welsh... Strinker is Welsh for Striker!
Gerrard is the best option for the holdng role and he could be for a few more years yet. His passing, control, vision, creativity and positioning are better than any ones. He is also a great leader. People expect a holding player to be combative, gung ho and solid, but that is not Rodgers way.
