I've abused my body all my adult life with alcohol & been a heavy smoker.
I had all the blood tests you can literally have since I got the epo's.
I've had cat scans, eeg scans, mri scans, endoscopy, every one apart from the eeg & mri came back normal.

Guess life's just catching up with me a bit now.
I used to be fit as **** & you think you can do this all your life.
And then I had the brain haemorrhage.
Have to admit, I not been the same man since.

Alcohol is a drug mate, and by definition alters the chemical balance of your body. Our body can't become accustomed to the adverse effects of it, but there are certain things that will change how it makes you feel, such as body mass, speed and amount of drinking, and food intake.

People are pulled over and given the breathalyser test if their driving looks unsafe.

I'd say people who would drive after drinking a pint now, would probably still drive with this new law and pubs wouldn't be affected

I like Marcus will have a pint (maybe couple if I'm not driving- I take my playing (job) seriously and know that any-more than 2 beers the affects my playing as it would my driving ) when gigging I know over a period of 3 to 4 hours that 1 pint has been absorbed and and the effects are gone, so I'll happily carry on drinking it without any reservations of being over the limit, so if/when the law changes - maybe its zero tolerance towards drink driving I'd would have to consider again. Excellent thread though and enlightening to read sensible discussion and arguments <cheers>
What I do know is I reckon I should cut down on my alcohol intake overall as I tend to drink to much at times at when I home - I'm finding it takes a lot of booze to make me inebriated - I love beer but hate being drunk

Fancy a pint? World's strongest beer is Scottish tipple with 68 PER CENT proof
Lab tests have confirmed the super strength of Brewmeister's Snake Venom which is made in Keith, Scotland

    Just an observation lads,
i grew up in a pub and they tried to instill a law VERY SIMILAR to this one about 10 years ago (roughly)

The pubs were against it heavily and were backed by restaurants Ie beef-eater etc and nearly all local restaurants.
Thier argument was that a Zero Tolerence would affect trades and kill of restaurants.
if you think anbout it most foods esp chicken, beef, porl 7 lams are marinated and cooked on white wine sauces and the like. You have steak and ale pies, pork in red wine jus etc and the trend was booming because of people like Gordon Ramsey, jamie oliver and Masterchef.

So you could effective go out for a meal and your choice of food would be reduced by 50% on the menu. they reasoned that people would just stay at home.

think of al the Sunday lunches, friday nights with the misus annerversaries etc income that they would lose.

So whilst you dont have a drink, you'd still have alcohol in your system. <ok>

One more thing, the guy who quoted the stats is correct. its an accepted figure (although it does vary) that the human body processes 1 standard drink of alcohol per hour. It is variable as i say, but its roughly the rule.

personally i think reducing it may be the way to go but Zero tolerence is un-workable in my opinion <ok>

EDIT: That was in London not Aus

Without getting too technical mate, you become accustomed to the alcoholic compound in your system, rather than 'pints' or 'shots'.

The Zero-Order Kinetics process is applicable to the absorption rate of alcohol, so no human can process alcohol through their liver quicker than any other human (unless the slower human has a liver deficiency). Z-OK is basically what happens when the the body essentially makes ethanol (alcohol) form a queue to get out of your body, this queue will deplete at a constant rate (like an hourglass) until the alcohol has completely filtered out of the body.

Ethanol (the most common type of primary alcohol) has no half-life, hence you have to ride out the hangover after a session and there's no liquid or electrolyte that you can run through your system to activate an alcohol half life and get an instant cleanse. When you think of Alcohol as a linear compound (drug) rather than a liquid in a glass, it's easier to understand. The way I imagine it is like that game snake that used to be on the old nokia phones, the more alcohol you consume the longer that snake will get inside you. Some people can build up a tolerance for holding the alcohol inside them, but ultimately the central nervous system will never be trained to be tolerant of foreign compounds that don't naturally occur in the body.

People can tolerate much higher doses of clean alcohol as well than they can pints for example, the addiction of an alcoholic is to that of Ethanol predominantly, so the concentrations will always be higher in cleaner spirits such as Vodka rather than beer. Rarely will you see a full blown alcoholic supping pints of beer, it's nearly always a strong spirit (or strong cider if they're skint), that's because they're addicted to the compound, rather than the drink itself.

To put it short, it's deception mate, your stability is improved by practice thus giving you a false feeling of being sober.

Sorry for boring anybody with that! I researched it when my tolerance levels depleted when I started clean eating and training every day.

Well using alcohol such as red wine or whatever in cooking is of course common place.
But, the cooking process burns off most of it, it's used purely for flavour.
Keith Floyd told me that & he died of alcoholism.

Are you saying that if somebody ate a sherry trifle they could be nicked on the way home?
    Bollocks lad.

The trifle part might be right, as it's not cooked is it Billy? Aside from that, all Alcohol has a lower boiling point than water so I'd imagine pies and stuff would be relatively ineffective.

For what it's worth, I'll be honest I've been arrested for DUI before and banned for 16 months, just a stupid young kid at the time but it was probably the best thing that happened to me in hindsight, knowing that it could have turned out much worse had I carried on doing it and caused an accident.

I've a question, not connected with stats or owt.

Would you let the pilot of the plane you are on have a pint before takeoff?
Now ask the same for a train driver. Now the same for the driver of a car you are a passenger in. Now the same if you were the driver.

To me, no difference in any of the answers, whether I know the blood mg a pint of lager gives you or not.

    Aye, no problem mate.
When I said Floyd told me I meant on a telly programme not face to face but I get what you mean.
The drugs I'm on have a lot of side effects & I'll be the first to admit I drink too much.
Sometimes I use it to get to sleep or to hide my demons.
There are times I just find it a comfort.
But never again will I ever drive.

I sometimes use alcohol at times to aid sleep- which works in the fact I get to fall to sleep quicker - but I don't sleep as well usually it quite restless - waking up earlier - I have the most vivid dreams under the influence of alcohol -which I quite enjoy <ok> if I need to have a good sleep and be fresh morning wise I drink passionflower tea - no vivid dreams but I sleep like a baby

Do you like reading Billy? I have never been a big reader but I loved Oliver Reed's autobiography man, if you've not read it, even if you hate reading give it a shot because some of the stuff he come out with in that book was incredible with regards to him being a complete pisshead.

The likes of Gazza will be on some form of medicated ethanol-based prescription drug, rather than being told to sup a little bit of voddy every day to wean himself off it. That's like saying to a sex addict, "Don't completely stop shagging, you can put the tip in but then you've got to stop" poor bastard!
