Well for what it's worth (and seeing as you've created a separate thread), he's actually correct - the bid lodged by Liverpool was well short of a "real" £20m. It was £12m with the usual ridiculous selection of add-ons that would take it up to that. Hence why it was refused.

Which I don't understand. Lallana gave you 6 years - he gave up a majority of his senior career to help get you to the position you're in today. The club was on an upward curve and his efforts gave you that. The Southampton project was a project that most understand was very long term.

But that doesn't mean that the club can expect all of the players who are a part of that to sacrifice their entire careers and become one club men to achieve that. He's taken you this far and its a bit selfish to ask him to give up his chance at CL and other glory for the sake of the club. As much as I appreciate the strides Southampton have made, I still think CL is a good 5-7 years away if the status quo does not change. Which it will. Its not in Lallana's career at this point and asking him to stay would effectively resign him to becoming a local star as opposed to say an international one. I can understand how dismissive and aggravating this sounds coming from other fans. Forget that its Liverpool doing it. Imagine any club in the CL. Had it been Real Madrid would anyone wonder why Lallana wanted to go to a higher stage? Had it been Barcelona would Saints supporters be saying he was a traitor?

Now say you understand his desire to leave. You say its the manner of his departure that bothers you. Lallana has sat through the departure of your long serving popular manager that got you to the top, the departure of a powerful executive that was a key figure in the creation of the top level Saints dream, and gotten much older in the process. He's seen a club legend leave (for other reasons) and at this point he probably feels that its time for the club to let him decide his own future. In return? They don't even contact him. They ignore offers. They won't return his calls (and yes I've heard the club version where it was only one night. I don't really buy it.) And they act as if he is a traitor for even wanting to leave.

At this point players can't always act perfectly and yes they can leave a bad taste in fans mouths. I for one understand why Torres left us for example. He said things that I'm sure he'd retract but years later it all seems so trivial.

So I have sympathy for Lallana and I think more Saints fans should too. At least some gratitude.

As for Lovren I could write more but I'm on mobile. His actions are too harsh though and I don't agree with what he's doing.

Doesn't excuse lying to Lovren though since it was at least a serious bid

The "sat through the departure of your long serving manager" part just isn't true I'm afraid. Lallana was never a fan of Adkins, and was one of a few senior players that made it clear to Cortese at the time that he didn't think Adkins was up to the task and was too tactically naive for the premiership. Remember as well, this is our captain, and someone who professed an undying love etc etc for the club, then used a member of the press to leak information to weaken the club's position (as well as the already well reported information about refusing to put a Saints shirt on etc etc)

That's not the behaviour of a captain, it's the behaviour of a petulant little so-and-so. I'm afraid Clattenburg was right, and he has changed (sort of - he always had it in him) since he played for England.

There's a graceful way to behave, and without going into every single example of where Lallana has fallen short of that (and there's a few, trust me), there are two players that have gone about it the right way, and two that haven't.

By the way, Lallana didn't "give up" 6 years of his career as much as we gave him 6 years of career at a good club. He wasn't up to the task in his first season in the Premier League to be honest - it was actually Pochettino that turned him round as a player. It's not like we've been carrying Messi through League 1 and the Championship.

Nice try <ok> but did you see your ex-captain ripping the piss out of Man Utd saying Inter is a step forward because at least they have Europa League <laugh>

So, not actually a lie, just another thing that despite information provided to the contrary, you're ignoring to side with your mildly odd agenda.
