No, Shaw was going way before the end of the season. Everything was basically agreed.

 

But that doesn't answer the question. Shaw and probably to some degree Lambert were allowed to leave by board decision. But IF the board had wanted to keep them, could they have?

 

Just a thought, but have Everton's board or manager ever come out and said "we're ambitious and aiming for x and y" or have they just got on with things. Odd how their best players/manager aren't being picked off (yes, I appreciate the loan situation means things are a little different) after an even better season than we had.

Perhaps the fault lies with what was over-sold to begin with, more than the current status quo (although I do agree with Dan in that this lot still have something to prove in terms of the outlay of the incoming cash, however in some ways I feel more comfortable that we're not selling the club with wild promises).

 

We it does answer it doesn't it? It says we had a very good bid that we couldn't turn down so accepted. Also how Lallana and now Lovren have acted answers your question as well. We try to keep a player so they start slagging the club off to get a move. So no we couldn't of.

He is in a couple of shots in the training gallery.

It would be nice if Mayuka proved some of us wrong this year.

 

He'd have to be proving us very, very wrong.

 

I'd guess its the fact you've gone from talking about Champions League qualification in 2 years to losing your manager and 3 of your best players in just a few months. I think it'd be kind of disappointing as a player to go from challenging for European places/Champions League to just battling to keep your players and stay in the top half.

Well yes, but perhaps if we hadn't started overselling the capability to get into the CL places, those players wouldn't have left. Much like Everton haven't talked loudly about those lofty heights, and they're able to hold on to their Jagielkas/Bainses and Miralles etc.

 

Everton had a good season, but there final finishing position was nothing really new for them. They may face a challenge to hold onto Barkley. It's still early in the summer

 

The CL was an ambition, not a promise. Dejan sees others going for more money and wants to be part of it. Are his wages in doubt at Southampton...no. Disgraceful to be angling to leave for your own reasons after only one season, then compounding it by putting the boot into the club that gave you a chance.

 

I thought he handed it in last month. By which time Lambert, Pochettino had gone and Shaw & Lallana were already half way out of the club.

I think Everton's stability helps things as well. Southampton seemed to be a bit of a mess in the second half of last season with Cortese leaving & Pochettino threatening or hinting at leaving every 2 weeks. It might just be a case of people sensing a bit of chaos at the club and trying to take advantage of it. Everybody knows about Everton & Kenwright, it is almost impossible to buy a player from them that they don't want to sell.

 

Which is a good stance to take. Fair play to him/them.
