"Look, I'd gladly stay in Southampton if the club had any ambitions, if they kept the key players," Lovren told Croatian paper Sportske Novosti.

Very interesting to see the different opinions on not just Dejan (although we can pretty much all agree he is being a twat!), but the board and state of the club etc too.

I think like some others, that the best yard stick we have as fans to judge the board will be on the players we bring in. Obviously none have come in yet, but there is plenty of time for that, and I am excited to see who it is. You could say that what goes against them is selling the players we have, and the negative noises we have heard from some sources, although it is funny how most of those noises seem to be coming from the camps of the players who want out.

However, things like the new training facilities must go down as a plus (to me that shows some form of intent and that we are not just looking to stand still). So should the choice of manager. Yes, he may be unproven in this league but there are many lesser candidates out there we could have gone for, and I really don't think Koeman would have come here if he thought we were a club lacking in ambition and that he would not have any resources with which to work with.

Ok, Lovren looks like he will be off, from what we have heard lately I don't want him around anyway if he won't be putting in his all to the cause (especially if he is just listening to YNWA on his pre-match headphones!). Sadly, Morgan may go too, and that one will really hurt me, although a midfield of Cork and big Vic is in no way mediocre. As far as signings go, I want us to replace the players we lose, and have lost, like for like position wise, and also get in some much needed depth that we were so evidently lacking last season. We have the funds to do all this!

Completely unrelated to this topic, I know, and I'm hoping people have got to the end of this post :D but where is Mayuka? (not that some here will care!!). I may be being blind/stupid, but don't think I saw him in the most recent training pics, and with no World Cup, then surely he would be one of the ones to come in early?

Well, he might have a point there. Thing is, he doesn't seem to want to know whether Saints actually still are. Mind you, we'd like to know too.

The problem with Lovren's statements is that it's blatantly obvious he's lying.

He wanted to play at LFC as soon as we played them, and yet he would have turned down a move to Liverpool had they made it earlier this summer. He is upset that the board did not tell him about a transfer offer, yet by the time that transfer offer was made he already had made up his mind to go, so what difference would it have made? He feels that the board isn't showing ambition, but he never gave them a chance to show ambition at all.

I can't take any of what he says at face value. Those who think the board is to blame, or the exit of NC or whatever, will continue to do so. Those who think it's the big money will also continue to do so.

Something happened prior to the summer, I think. That something was more than just NC leaving, or the "death of a dream." But what that something was, I don't know.

Had the board opened up new contract negotiations with Lallana, Lovren, and yes perhaps even Shaw and Lambert prior to the end of the season, might they have signed them and still be here? Could the board have afforded those wages?
