Koeman has done more the Pochettino in his career with ease. I will wait and see if his style of play and management is a step up or down. What ever the case it doesn't give the a player the excuse to bitch in the media.

I'm coming to the conclusion that the only way Cortese could have stayed is if he found a buyer to keep funding his project in spite of FFP, without selling anyone. Apparently he couldn't do that or couldn't get the owner to sell.

Pochettino vs Koeman is a different argument, but in terms of "ambition", there's a reason Spurs hired Pochettino and didn't even consider Koeman. The "wait and see" point applies to literally everything so if we're going to keep saying that then we might as well shut the forum down because there'll be nothing to discuss. Obviously we should wait and see before making a definitive judgement, but nobody's making any kind of definitive judgement. Similarly nobody's arguing Lovren isn't being a tosser - he's acting like a right prick.

At what point will I have done enough waiting and seeing to be able to say what I think of the board?

Nope my opinion is wait and see, yours is different. That is why there is a forum as people have different opinions.

When the season kicks off? Then we will have a fair idea who we have brought in to replace the players gone.

"Wait and see" isn't an opinion, it's just straight up not having an opinion.

I'm not going to judge the board on signings alone. Any board can sign good players. Mainly because it's a committee decision including the opinions of people who aren't on the board. The Portsmouth board was shocking and they bought great players.

Not sure where the evidence of not considering Koeman comes from but the fact pochettino has two years of experience in this country over Koeman and less failure on his CV probably counted in his favour as well as a willingness to pay off his own contract as a sign of commitment.

In terms of ambition, Pochettino is clearly a fiercely ambitious man and perhaps that reflected well in interviews as it does with a section of the squad.

I think pochettino will be expected to work with an expensive and opinionated squad and not much in the way of transfer budget. Koeman won't want to deal with an uncooperative squad again after Valencia.

Kind of. Everyone's opinion should be "wait and see, but here is what I think in the meantime..." but there's not really much point saying "wait and see" every post because it goes without saying.

CBK......... slating off people for expressing a different view is one thing...trying to make the argument into a personal attack is another. As is bating someone....mate....... come on give it a rest!!
We have enough problems to cope with as a Saints fan without you bickering on the website..............

There's not going to come a day when suddenly everything becomes transparent and suddenly the board is showing us exactly how they've been operating. Sorry to say it but we'll always be going by media reports.

You know what I ment Dan. Until I see what happens I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the board. Some of the stuff I have heard about Lovren adds to me thinking he is a utter twat. If by the start of the season we haven't replaced players well enough(in my view) I will hold out my judgemnet. Too many people are willing to jump on the boards back with out knowing much.

They were pretty public with the targets they were serious about - everybody knows it was always Van Gaal with Pochettino as a plan B. Van Gaal also has no English experience, and stuff like previous failures is one of the main reasons why Pochettino is probably a step up from Koeman.

There were definitely articles of Koeman being contacted. It might not have gone much further.

Koeman vs Van Gaal, no contest.

edit: For my money Pochettino got out of southampton before he made his failure rate 100% instead of 50%

Well then reword "considered" to "seriously considered". They likely spoke to a number of managers but they obviously far preferred Pochettino to Koeman.

What are the other criteria left?

Surely the biggest question is whether they will re-invest in the squad. If they spend the money regardless of whether the signings work out or not then they've been true to their word

I don't see that as being preferred far behind in a negative way. arguably then so is ronald de boer. I think their first thought was another crack at finding their own mourinho after AVB failed but Van Gaal was such a good proposition they couldn't turn down that if it was possible.

De Boer and Koeman were the next in line and again they preferred the up and coming manager who might never fail to the manager who already has failed.

Failure is cancer rather than experience to some people apparently.
