They are facts but they dont speak for themselves as they are without context. Yes Bruce started most of the 20 league games he participated in and we won 2. Faye participated in 3 games. There is no set of facts that stipulate that if Faye had been in the starting lineup we would have won those games. Sure one can say that if someone else had been in the starting lineup we might have won more games. But there is nothing though to say Faye was the person who could have been that individual. In fact from what I can find in match reports we lost every game that Faye started in. Look at some of the games that Bruce started in that we lost. Everton 2-0, Man U 3-1, Arsenal 3-0, Arsenal 2-0, Man U 3-2, Chelsea 2-0 the list of course goes on. We can not seriously look back and say that it was Alex Bruce that caused us to score 3 goal over those 6 games. If you average .5 goals a game over 6 games against those teams you will lose every game. Most of those games listed are towards the end of the season. In the begining of the season we had Danny "couldnt hit a barn" Graham. We also can not blame one individual in defense for losing games that we also couldnt score a goal in. Perhaps if we had played someone up front that could score a goal we wouldnt have had so many loses in which Alex started. The point being, your facts do not prove your point.
exactly - unfortunately whilst Bruce let Faye go he gave his son another 12 months - he was 5th choice in our Championship team, it beyond belief he's still with us
I bet AB didnt think he'd play much last season but he did cos of injuries. It'll be the same again this season.
Perhaps not. We clearly looking for a starting CB and are supposedly looking at a couple LBs and a RB. There is a good chance we play 4 at the back instead of 3 CBs. In that situation Bruce shouldnt feature as we would have Davies, Chester and Dawson with one of those as back up. I would think Bruce will be relegated to a spot on the bench even with injuries as we should have one quality player left to start even with an injury.
I think I read that as well. I would guess with the Europa League addition to our schedule that we wont be letting him go. We do need a large squad so that the extra games have little effect on our ability to avoid relegation.
Got to love the Irish Messi.
So you could see he was making wrong decisions but he couldn't? It's funny how football fans talk about managerial errors as if it's a fact. 'Played the wrong player' ffs True but he was a backup then and he'll be one place further down the pecking order if we get another CB in. We aren't getting a CB to replace Chester or Davies, we're going for greater strength in depth, maybe with a view to playing a back 3. I reckon he'll be 5th choice like Faye was last year, and will probably get released next summer.
No, you're implying i'm passing it off as fact, I'm telling you now it's just opinion. Confusion over for you now I take it? ffs Are you one of these sados who require 'imo' on every post? If it's fact i'll state as fact and I'll back it up. otherwise it's just default opinion like everybody else's
I also think we need to cut Bruce to get rid of all this innuendo. He did well last season for sure but not good enough going forward so may as well sell and remove the potential stigma.
Bruce Jnr has performed to the top of his ability but that ability isn't sufficient for the standards we need now Faye will move on and be excellent in the Championship again, he's not really mobile enough for the PL
Quite sad really. Enjoyed watching Faye at times but just one Bruce performance, where he had arguably the world's best striker in his pocket, is all the justification SB would need. Thanks Faye, but stop souring your time with us and show a bit more class
Fattist, Faye was never "good enough" for the PL, but he was ok as an emergency back up, and a years salary was a nice thanks for the help in promotion. I'm frankly baffled by some of the comments about Alex Bruce. He has his good games and he has his bad games. He's never going to set the world on fire but he's reasonably solid, and he's been a bloody good servant and asset for us. 12 months as a thank you for what he did last season for us is fine, unless you lot are now in the "there's no room for sentiment in this game camp, we look forwards not back" camp. Bear in mind if he hadn't done what he did against Liverpool, we'da been staring properly down the barrel of relegation. I also echo what someone else has said in this thread, if he'd stayed on in the FA Cup Final we might have won it. He did this in a few other games too, so, yeah, enough with the AB hate.
Alex Bruce is a strange one... I'd say he actually performed better for us in the Premier League than in the Championship. I know Tom Cairney decided he had to move on when Alex Bruce was getting picked picked ahead of him in midfield.
